This week the eBay app failed because my iPhone 7 will not update to ios16.
Why oh why didn't eBay leave a legacy version live so I can continue using the app?
Anyone know if there is any pressure being put to bear or plans for a solution?
I can of course use the website but it looks quite different.
Of course I could go on eBay and purchase an iPhone 8 or newer but that is somewhat counter-intuitive.
Solved! Go to Solution.

This is the latest eBay announcement relating to the app issues:
Members are reporting when removing the app, the browser is working well on the phone. Not ideal I know, for those preferring the app, but a kind of a ' workaround'.

Sorry but OS upgrades might add features that you don't thing are useful - but they often also contain security updates as well.

You don't necessarily need to use Chrome. Safari would be fine.

This new app is probably designed to track you

My buy a new phone, when the one you have was working fine. 42 years (my experience) of computers and Operating systems were designed to be downwards compatible so legacy systems had the basics to run. Obviously this went out the “window” when Microsoft went for a cheap “ford” OS and licensing and who owns what and everyone followed. Reality is, you make and buy throw away gear (ops Apple are not cheap), don’t cry when you have to throw it away 6 months later. Creates a great recycling business too.

Funny ha ha ... My phone runs Android 13 and app says it's not compatible.
Well guess what! My money is no longer compatible with Ebay's bank accounts. Once my on-going buys are finalised, I'll be closing my account and heading over to other platforms to buy and sell.

Sadly, both my laptop and home pc are not exactly practical to lug around the country just for the sake of accessing ebay on the move. I'm certainly not going top spend hundreds of pounds updating my mobile phone to a compatible device just for app access.
The amount of money I will save will be perfect justification for walking away from Ebay.
Their loss, not mine.

Why not use a mobile browser on your phone?

Because the mobile side of eBay is about as much use as a fish with a bicycle.
The app was very useful. It was fast, easy to use and a mainstay on my mobile phone.
You would think eBay would actually listen to its users, not make them unwelcome with this stupid update.
