Just tried opening the app on my android phone and get the message "this version is no longer supported. Please update to the latest version". Pressing the "update" goes to Google play but the only options are "Uninstall" or "Open" - no option to update. Pressing "Cancel" closes the app.
I suspect they pushed a new version of the app to deal with the changes introduced overnight but something has gone wrong somewhere.
Anyone else got this issue?

If you're having problems please read through the thread. We have all been through the same problems and most of the answers are there.
I know nothing about Apple Devices but entered a question at Google:
What is the minimum ios version for the new ebay app.
The AI answer was:
We regularly update our app with new features and improvements, to provide you with the simplest and most secure experience when shopping and selling via your mobile device.
As part of our latest update, versions 6.191 and older of the eBay app are no longer supported by devices not using iOS 17 and Android 10. Earlier operating systems date back several years and are now no longer able to support the latest eBay experience.
To update to the latest version of the eBay app, please follow the steps below. If you’re unable to update because your phone is not using iOS 17 and Android 10, you can still continue to use eBay via ebay.co.uk on your mobile or desktop browser.
How to update your eBay app:
iOS:
If your device has iOS 16 the app store will say you need iOS 17, but it should still download a version to your phone that allows you to keep using eBay via the app.
If you are unable to update to iOS 17 and do not currently have iOS 16, you can continue to use eBay via ebay.co.uk on your mobile or desktop browser.

I'd like to see a phone that has iOS 17 and Android 10. I think they meant to put 'or' not 'and'.

No i got rid of the app as it is useless now, just go onto your browser log in but make sure it is up to date first that is the only way at the moment and better than nothing.

I have a Samsung S8 phone which has had the same message. Does this mean I cant access my ebay account anymore and therefore need a new phone?

You can still access eBay via the web browser.

I have exactly the same phone. I feel its a little unfair to penalise people who don't have all the up to date tech!

It probably means you can't use the app anymore on that phone, but you can use the normal site via the browser of your choice.
If you want to use the app then yes, you may have to upgrade your phone.

Do you know which version of operating system you have?
You can still access the eBay website www.ebay.co.uk on a mobile or computer and use your login information, then click 'my ebay'. This should show all purchases, bids and sales etc.

I can imagine. In the last day my mother can no longer access YouTube app via her tablet, browser only now, so some serious stuff is happening in the background out there.

Please accept my apologies tressygirl. I was just looking through the thread again and noticed you had already posted a link to the eBay announcement I stumbled across and posted partially. I was trying to get up to speed on Apple devices at the time. I have calmed down a bit now, after the initial shock of not being able to update the app. I must have missed your link in the panic. Linking to their message is a much better idea. It includes all their graphics, which my copy and paste method missed. Let's hope eBay fix this. I'm not buying a new phone, until my battery doesn't hold charge any more. There seems to be a lot of others that feel the same. I hardly used the app anyway. The website is more my cup of tea. Thank you for all your good advice.

And that is going to be a HUGE challenge to eBay surviving this jaunt into the land of Harrods shoppers… whom last I checked, only sold their cheating partners Porches & Ferrari’s and don’t actually buy anything from eBay!
Thinking of jumping ship after 23 years and going to Gumtree! That’s what I think of the eBay Management team, if they care so little for my green philosophy, if my phone ain’t broke, keep using it. eBay is only a bidding site, it’s not Harrods, it does not need IOS 17 or Android 10 to deliver its App service! Idiots!

Same problem for me on Samsung Galaxy S8. Uninstalled and tried to reinstall but still getting the same message. Annoying.
