I've had an email from Ebay suggesting that I review my security features.

As regards anything IT I am a complete idiot, so please treat me as such in any reply! Ebay have suggested that I review my security features. I've tried to do this but as it normally asks me to sign in as facebook I just go straight through without being asked for my password. However, I need to re-sign in to change things like my password etc, and it won't accept the password I originally set up for the account. When logged in as facebook I've been able to change my FB password, but that still doesn't get me to my original EB password! I've tried contacting Ebay direct to get help with this, but have just been going round in circles on their website and have been unable to either email them or indeed speak to an actual human being. Can somebody kindly help me.....in simple terms please?

I too am wondering if this might be a phishing email.  But if it's genuinely from Ebay (it will be in your Ebay message inbox too), I think you'll need to contact Ebay about this.  There is no email support (it was stopped many years ago) and you can't phone at the moment, due to Covid staff shortages; but Live Chat and Request-a-Callback are available in working hours (Help & Contact is at top and foot of any page).  I requested a callback a few days ago, and was called back in less than a minute.

If the email was not from Ebay (but purporting to be), I hope you didn't click on any links...? If it wasn't and you did, come back for further advice.

The golden rule is ... If in doubt: DON'T!

I have had the same e-mail and suspected this was phishing right from the start. It has now disappeared and not returned or been sent again.

There have been no consequences from my lack of attention and response - my account hasn't been affected in any way or altered to any extent. So I suggest you leave this e-mail alone. DO NOT ACT UPON IT OT WHAT IT TELLS YOU TO DO.

Stay safe and remember that golden rule. I hope this helps you.

Suggestion ... Log out, restart, ignore any alternative login options and sign in again normally with your usual Username or (email address) and Password to see if you can retrieve your old account/s ?.

It is also reported that logging into eBay accounts using the alternative Facebook/Apple/Google options often opens a New account with missing or erroneous account activity details.

Do you have another account, this one was only opened last month?

Why do you go to ebay via Facebook, that sounds like a very unwise way to do it. Can't you just go to ebay and log in, or if required use the Change password or Forgotten password link.

Are you absolutely sure that it is a genuine request from Ebay? Did it come through messagesas well as email and address you by name, not just as Dear Member or something similar.
