Trading Standards need to take look at

flipping lightbulbs!  the halogen spotlight ones, where it says 4000 hrs on the packet.  Is it heck, more like 96 with the last lot I bought. All other products have to comply with what it says on the packet, so why are lightbulb manufacturers allowed to declare 4000 hrs ??  Im paying more for the bulbs in my kitchen than the electric to light the darn things 😞

We've been having exactly the same problem with the ones in our kitchen Algas X-(

I don't know if it is something about the location - I've not had to change any in the bathroom for the last 4 or 5 years!

Maybe, most of these type of bulbs are switched on, and left on for these tests.

When it is usually the NORMAL switching on and off, that kills them.

With you there, Algas. The number of (very) expensive low energy, "cost efficient" lightbulbs I have bought over the last few years, which have given up the ghost way before their due time is unbelievable, and something about which I have complained bitterly, for all this time!

Bulbs which claim to last for five years - then stop working after one year. Who keeps all their bulb packaging and receipts? You'd need a separate filing cabinet. How else can you prove that your bulb has not performed as promised?

At one time there used to be reguar discussions on here about the merits (or otherwise) of "energy saving" light bulbs and I for one have never been convinced by the claims surrounding them both on the claimed light output or the longevity.

I don't believe the claims regarding the light output because even a simple test with a camera will show that the light output is not the same as an "old fashioned" bulb of, for instance "100 watts". The energy saving bulb which is supposed to be of equivalent output is nothing like the same.

As to the longevity (or otherwise) I've had new ones which have failed after a short time but there were two in this house when I moved here about 10 years ago and they're still going. One is the stairs/hall light and the other is in my bedroom so neither are "on" for very long.

Because the "old fashioned" 100 watt bulb (lamp if you like) was due to be phased out, I bought a box of 100 so they'll last me quite a while? :^O

Right that's it!  From now on I am keeping my receipts because I too am fed up with my light bulbs dying before their given time - especially the haolgen bulbs which supposedly have a 1500 hour lifespan - more like 60 hours - and there's nothing wrong with my electrical circuits! X-(
