Sorry for the corny title but I wanted to grab people's attention! My issue is that there was a time (& it wasn’t so long ago) when most grocers, delicatessens & supermarkets sold veal, ham & egg pies. But try now – it isn’t listed in any of the major supermarket chains’ websites & if you ‘Google’ it under any phraseology (e.g. “Where can I buy veal, ham & egg pies?), you just get recipes. Is it because veal is felt to be politically incorrect & the product is genuinely no longer available? Or is that there is a magic phrase to Google? Any help to find stockists – on or offline - will be appreciated.

I saw that one but I also saw the "Not available" note.
It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.

I don't know whereabouts you hail from right-then-petal so of course I'm not aware what town you are referring to! And you are right that Freemasonry is my interest although meet-and-greet doesn't really apply as such.

Hi cee-dee
It comes with a nil result if you search on the main Waitrose site although they do list a pork & chicken pie which I might have a look at. She Who Must Be Obeyed thinks it's obtainable at Sainsbury's deli counter but they specifically don't list anything fro the deli online. Thanks anyway.

Hi Roger..
Given that veal is easily obtaainable I am suprised that veal pie isn't.

I googled 'Veal and Ham pie' and up came Sainsbury's...
You are right, there a few recipes listed rather than suppliers listed.
Traditionally they always had an egg(s) in them so really no need to mention the egg in a search.
Veal went out of favour for a few years because of the rearing methods but that's improved now and it has become easier to buy veal in main stream food suppliers. I don't think you see the pies around so much these days as possibly viewed as a little old fashioned when you consider the choices of food on offer these days.
From a person viewpoint, not sure I would want to buy a ready made pie as you never know what's in it!

Hello, slawman, cheer up mate it may never happen...
Well you obviously have an issue.
'Is it because veal is felt to be politically incorrect' It is certainly felt to be incorrect by so many. (google it to find out).
And it is certainly felt to be incorrect by the mostly BABY boy cows. Females are mostly kept for milk producing.
I would never eat veal, for the simple reason that they spend their very short lonely lives confined to metal crates, in dark confined warehouses with concrete floors never seeing day light.
And did you know when they take those calves to slaughter that their fellows are killed while others are waiting in pens for their turn can see, hear and smell death, and a good number of them are still alive when they begin cutting them up, if that's not wrong I don't know what is. (not in all slaughter houses - but some).
'You are hoping for a magic phrase to help YOU find stockist' I hope you don't mind if on this occasion I DON'T wish you good luck!

Dear Merehazle
So can I presume that, generally, you do eat meat but not veal for the reasons you have stated. Whilst I agree that any cruelty is to be avoided, the process of producing meat foodstuff DOES involve killing the animal. That is a fact. Avoiding veal is I know a matter of conscience which I can respect where it is genuine but not when it's no more than sitting on the fence. If the ultimate slaughter concept is not acceptable to anyone then the only alternatives are vegan, vegetarian or starvation.
I'm not afraid to say I love meat & fish but am also content sometimes with vegetable or cheese dishes. If there was a utopian meat processing option doing away with slaughter but with reasonable prices, I don't think anyone would be justified to continue killing animals.

The only good thing about the Quorn mince is that it's soya protein, so ok for the spag bol that doesn't look like a piece of meat!
