I wonder if those, quite rightly in my opinion, calling for people not to jump to conclusions over Mair's motives, would be quite so reticent had he had brown skin and shouted, "Allahu Akbar", whilst murdering Jo Cox.

You do have a point there Creeky. The two 'home grown' terrorists that so cruelly murdered Lee Rigby in the street and in broad daylight were both found to have been long term users of Cannabis, so they were probably not of sound mind at the time. Some people who suffer mental problems do focus on things or people that they perceive to be problematic to the point of obsession, whereas 'normal' people would have a good rant to vent their angst and then forget it. A bit like some of us on here do?😀

I think the evil event will remain in our memories for a long time, there will be a debate over Mair, his mental state and the national response to mental health issues. It should not be used to influence the debate either way so it was regretfull that Farage chose to suggest this may have been an establishment plot, Enter the conspiracy theorists.

Just what level of mentally ill would one person need to be, to have the forethought on downloading instructions from the Internet on how to build a bomb and homemade gun, then have the mental capacity  to build the gun and bullets.

Perhaps mentally ill enough to form an Army, of like minded mentally ill people, call yourself  ISIS  and form your own caliphate..........or is that not classed as being mentally ill ?? ( because a great many of their actions would suggest otherwise )  If not, then what actions by which mentally ill people are excusable ( or can at least warrant some degree of understanding ) and which ones are not ; because it beats the hell out of me. I would class ISIS as evil Evoman not mentally ill.

I'm just worried that all the hoo-ha placed on his mental health will deflect from him getting the punishment he deserves.

I agree with what you're saying, but that was my point ; as far as I'm concerned " Evil is as Evil does ".  One of the biggest defence tactics, by barristers, is to enter pleas of not guilty by reason of insanity.  That has now been manipulated ( in some cases ) to be not guilty by reason of " Temporary insanity "........so you can be insane for a Day.......an Hour.......whatever time is convenient.  Like everything else in this country, the ones deserving of genuine care and attention, for mental problems, are sacrificed by those manipulating the system.

As par for the course, all the Kippers/Britain First types start screeching "mental health" in order to avoid scrutiny of how Far-Right politics and violence are never far apart:

Anders Breivik, Tony Lecomber, David Copeland...

Seems there's often a correlation with Far-Right politics, terrorism, and "loners with mental health problems". If it's "just mental health" being the issue, how come "loony lefties" never seem to be involved in modern terrorism?

When you have a Right-Wing demagogue standing in front of recycled Nazi Propaganda screeching "BREAKING POINT", it's not really surprising when a Nazi sympathiser "breaks".

Scary thing is, if we were in the 1930s, about 75% of posters in this forum would be cheering on Oswald Mosely.

I think you just lost that argument Book with the news coming out of the US concerning an apparent attempt to shoot Donald Trump

Trump's politics may not be as attractive as Jo Cox' but the actions of the two individuals assaulting them are on a par.

Very moving interview on ITV news this evening with JO's Husband, A thoroughly decent sounding bloke, riddled with grief yet holding it together for the sake of his children. He spoke candidly about his late wifes concern that political arguing had become very coarse to the point that people ceased to argue sensibly resorting instead to personal insult and generally aggressive behaviour. For those of us who are open minded observers those observations ring true. Is it passion or just pig headed arrogance?

Neither.........It's the disregard for human life, it's the feeling of power for those that are impotent, it's knowing that destruction produces more of a reaction than creation...........it's a glimpse into the future of mankind, that shows that, while they are looking for threats to mankind's existence from outside, their end will in fact come from within.
