Isle of Wight Bus Shelter for the homeless

Just saw an item on the BBC news that brought tears to my eyes. A former homeless man has bought a double decker bus and converted it to a night shelter for homeless people. Upstairs, the seats have been removed and bunks put in. Downstairs are more bunks, a cooker and even a wood burner stove. The bus will give shelter and warmth to up to 14 people a night. The bus and it's conversion cost £20.000, some raised by crowdfunding and some donated by the owner himself. What a wonderful, fabulous idea. That man knows how it is needed, because he has been there himself. He should be given a medal. A lovely story in the midst of a sea of bad news.

I saw that too Astro, brilliant idea and I agree the guy deserves some recognition for his efforts. Not sure it would work in Liverpool or certain other inner cities but absolutely ideal for the Isle of Wight.

So very kind of that man, and all who contributed in some way. Sure all those people who spend some time there, in comfort and warmth, are very grateful.

The average age of death for a homeless person is 47 for men and 43 for women.

87% of the homeless are men.

Another shocking statistic is that ex service men make up about 10% of the homeless.

I believe some ex service men if they have served for a long time, do find the transition to unregimented civilian life very difficult to adjust to.
