Notification language problem

Hi, 

Ever since changing phones, certain eBay notifications appear in a different language.

I've checked settings in my account, it's set to English, I've tried reinstalling the app, nothing has fixed it. 

Any help please?

Thank you for your post.

This does seem strange if your settings are in English.  Check your phone's language settings to see that English is the default one. While in settings you should also be able to check app languages.

I've checked and English is set as my default language in my phone settings. 

I looked for eBay in app languages, but it doesn't appear in the list.

I've linked in with tech who are unable to see an issue on the eBay side. They have advised its likely a phone setting that is being picked up causing the different language.

I've checked every language setting I can find! 

Perhaps there's a bug in your app affecting the latest Android version?

Like I say, it doesn't affect every eBay notification, it seems to be the buying related ones.

It must have something to do with your app because no other app on my phone is having this problem!

kat@ebay  our eBay community manager, has forward your issue to the eBay tech team, who have looked into this,  and can find no error on their app.  No one else has reported this issue, I cannot remember it ever being reported,  to be honest.

It must be a phone setting you are not aware of.

Is there somewhere in town that sells these phones you can pop into,  for them to look at the phone and  correct this issue for you?

My hubby's phone has so many functions and options, I'm not sure it could not help Nassa in some issues, it's easy to click on something that is now causing this problem.

I have exactly the same issue. I have just upgraded phones to a OnePlus 13 with Android 15 and my notifications are also suddenly in German. This is not an isolated issue it seems

I upgraded to a Samsung S24 FE, android 14.

That is bizarre,  but as eBay tech team have looked at this and confirmed it's not an eBay issue with the app, it must be a setting then that has been inadvertently selected somewhere on your phone.

As I suggested  it might be  worth taking it into a shop in town, selling this brand of phone for them to deal with the issue.

I've had the exact same issue on my eBay app, also recently changed phones (from Pixel 7 to Pixel 9 Pro). Has anyone identified the cause?

Are yours appearing in German? Any connection to Germany, do you speak Germany etc?

I don't.

Given at least 3 of us appear to be experiencing this and there's no reference to this in any other messages I think this is more and more likely to be an app bug.

Hi, 

I attached a screenshot of one of the notifications further up in the thread, I don't know what language it is, your free to have a look if you wish. 

I have no connection with any other language other then English. 

I personally think it's an app issue as it doesn't affect EVERY eBay notification (on mine anyway), and only seems to be affecting the eBay app, a phone setting wouldn't be THAT specific, but as you can see, eBay are having none of it!

Well, I see what you mean.  I'm sure everyone on these forums has huge respect for the ebay tech team, their accuracy, their prompt fixing of issues, their stellar communication with us.

More than one brand of phone affected?  Only one app affected?  Sorry Tressy, you're so helpful in these forums, it almost feels wrong for me to throw scorn on your diagnosis, but if I worked in one of those phone shops and you brought that story in to me I'd roll around laughing at the expectation the shop could fix it.

But of course I may be wrong.  I'll be fascinated to know what the cause will eventually be found to be.  And why always German, not random languages?  Sinister plot by the AfD for world domination?

The plot thickens.....I have just turned my old phone in and a number of eBay notifications have come though and guess what language they are in ...you got it... German!

I honestly don't really mind as pressing them takes you to the English translation within the app, but I am now in no doubt this is something that needs addressing by the development team of the app

I can now reveal the true cause.  This is due to a new business deal between ebay and DuoLingo.  Just sign up for DuoLingo, it works on a PC or a phone, and with a few minutes practice every day you'll be able to say "Koenen Sie Englisch sprechen?" when you're on hols and trying to get your towel on the sunbed.

You're getting this promotion because ebay's AI has identified you as someone with potential talent for learning new languages.  Good, isn't it!

If it helps I deleted and reinstalled the app a few days ago  - to date I don't think I've seen the same language issue pop up.

I’m getting the same. Does it on my phone and iPad. Coming up in german
