Guernsey buyer. Had enough.

Hi,

There is definitely a big problem, for sellers not being able to complete purchases.

And buyers who are trying to desperately work out why sellers tell them they will send, but they are unable to buy.

I spent an hour last night trying to change my postal address, from United Kingdom, to Guernsey, to Channel Islands, sometimes with postcode, sometimes without.

Even eBay suggested an address for me, which was just plain wrong.

I can see sellers have post costs displayed, I change the address, post then disappears.

Sellers will display that they will send to United Kingdom, I've changed my address to United Kingdom, ebay tells me that the seller will not send to me, I should change my address.

Really really Pi%%ed off with eBay, big time.

I have looked again and again for answers here, too many "could be this.. possibly" answers.

6 purchases lost, 6 sellers less than happy, 6 lots of money for eBay gone, do they care anymore !.

"I've only made one suggestion which is the seller needs to specify a post...."

This a group chat.

You are not the only person here.

You are not the only person to make a suggestion.

I am not the only person on this group chat who has problems of their own.

Lastly, I will no longer ask the poor seller to try to change things, "your suggestion" has been suggested and tried by at least one seller, it did not work.

This is not a week old problem, it's been happening for months.

There are lots of older sellers who simply do not know what to do, I will not suggest loads of different things, that could stress them out, not on my account.

Last Question to all, has this come about after the eBay postal change ?.

I didn't know it had happened, just wondered if it coincided with the big change, I see there are a good few people with issues concerning that.

Your message 17 is responding to me. Good luck with ebay customer services, if you're not actually leaving.

That no doubt explains why I get dozens of views on items for sale but no purchases. No doubt that when a potential UK purchaser views my items from UK, they are shown the international postage rather than the domestic one. That would also explain why, when I do a search for items to get an idea of price, I sometimes see postage costs of over £30 !! just to send an item to Jersey from UK.
I assume that sellers from the Isle of Man do not have a similar problem ? Yet, they are no different to the Channel Islands. It would be interesting to know.

I've tried Customer Services for a different problem. The automated service is rubbish and never addresses the question that you want answered.
To speak to someone I had to pay 5 dollars (!) not sterling up front to wait for a phone call and then speak to someone who had no comprehension of the issue that I was raising.
It's all so simple but so frustrating that eBay cannot grasp the issue.
Listing on eBid is really quite simple there are considerably less people who use the site so selling can be slow and sometimes non productive but expensive if you have paid for a membership and pay for extras such as bold type etc.
I was a member of eBay for many years in the 80s and 90s and it was so simple, and I sold hundreds of items and built up considerable feedback. But, when I sought to resume selling my account had been cancelled and I had to start from scratch but am now prevented from selling even to UK because when I list an item at the final stage I receive a message to the effect that it would appear that I am selling from a destination other than my registered address and if I wish to continue I need to create a "Warehouse" account.
It's just not worth all the bother just to sell a few unwanted books, magazines and DVDs etc.

My response was to the OP - I think we've agreed the two of us, have nothing more to say to say to each other - hence my "Good luck with ebay customer services".

I responded to your previous comment here. If it's not worth all the bother for you, fair enough.

If you don’t use the GSP or disable it and put postage to Europe , it will come up as custom international delivery so you can charge what you like and use what service you like because simple delivery doesn’t do international post unless it’s going with the global shipping programme

but you’d have to say in the listing buyers from jersey guernsey Channel Islands pls message before buying so you can add Europe to the postage otherwise anyone from Europe could buy your item and if you didn’t want that ……

Because eBay class these islands as Europe I believe

not sure if that’s helpful , or works,  just thought  I’d throw it out there

though it’s confusing if you’re the buyer or seller and if you have to do something different in each case 😐🥸
