Reposting this report as the original post has been archived
Last month it took me an hour to add one item to a listing because listing variations from years ago kept adding themselves back.
I now have to add three items to three listings and I'm actually kinda worried about how long it might take 😅
marco@ebay you replied to me about this issue before, please can you see what's going on, and if there's any kind of a workaround to delete them permanently so I don't have to keep doing every time?

Hi bobsbrickstuff, thanks for this and sorry about the delay on the reply.
Happy to look into this one for you, I was checking my files there and I can see there was a similar issue with this before that was reported by you, and according to our records it was resolved. Can I just confirm with you if this only started happening to you again recently? Or has it been constantly happening since July? If you could also confirm what are the exact changes you're making to your multi variation listings and share a screenshot of the error you get (if any) I'd appreciate that.
Thank you,
Marco

Hi thanks for looking.
Wow, really surprised they've said it was resolved, did they say I said it was resolved?
I hadn't heard anything about it since that post and mentioning it in one of the community chats.
It's been happening constantly since at least then, but potentially goes further back as it may be something I became aware of rather than noticed a change.
This is one listing (number 224777743766) - it says I have 9 variations, but there's many more on the list. This is most or all of the variations I have previously entered into the listing.
If I make any change to the Variations - adding or removing or sorting - all the old ones get readded.
I've tried disabling them from the Edit button and page shown in the first and second screenshots, but they remain in the list. I've tried deleting them from the variation combinations area in the third screenshot, but they don't delete from the variations list in the first and second screenshots.
If I want to add any new variations to the listing, I go to the page in the second screenshot, but all the past variations are shown, and it adds them too. I have to then go through the list in the third screenshot, and delete the variations that I didn't want to re-add.
As an extra thought though, if the variations could be disabled as an alternative to being deleted, this would be extremely useful... as long as it remembers which you've disabled!

Lovely, thanks for sharing that with me habacstudio.
I will report this for you now, and as soon I get further updates on this for you, I will post back here to let you know. Anything else, please feel free to let me know.
Thank you,
Marco

Hi, please can you find out where they're at with this? Adding 5 items to a listing has taken about an hour again!

I also have this issue, it's impossible to delete them, as when you re-open the listing "all of the variations are back" So unable to add new items as you then have to spend ages going through it to remove out of stock items, it's a nightmare as I have lots of listings with 250 variations.

Proper time waste isn't it! I'd love to know why tech support marked my original report from the middle of last year as resolved...

Hi, is there any movement on this?
07-03-2025 3:06 PM
Hi bobsbrickstuff, I've just got an update on this, please see below.
So, I've been confirmed that this is not a technical issue. However, if you follow the steps below your old variations will no longer be re-added again, so that will stop it from happening.
You can delete variations in two ways:
1. Click on Delete inside the row you want to delete to delete by unity
2. Select the checkboxes on the rows you want to delete and then click on "Delete" above the table and if all variations of an attribute are removed (In this case, you just have one attribute - Minifig), it remains on Selected attributes and options container, until removed in the edition.
So, basically once you delete your variations from the variation field, it should work ok for you. If you keep running into the same issue, please let me know.
Thank you,
Marco

Hi, thanks for the update. Though I despair at the tech team, I really do…
They keep telling us things aren’t issues, when they clearly are.
Not only am I fairly certain that I'll have mentioned that I tried this in the initial deleted post from last year, but in my reply to you on 8th Jan in this thread asking for the exact changes I was making and a screenshot, I showed a screenshot of the section they’ve advised, and said “I've tried deleting them from the variation combinations area in the third screenshot, but they don't delete from the variations list in the first and second screenshots.”
And to be certain, I've just tried it again, and the issue still exists.
Oh, and to confirm - I'm clicking Save changes on both pages of the listing.

Ok... we'll try this. A step by step recreation showing the exact issue
1. I look at all my active listings, and scroll to this one with 5 variations:
2. I'm going to delete the four sold out options, so let's scroll down to the photos and combinations section. Notice that the photos show 14 variations, but the combinations shows 5. This will come up again, it's the issue that tech are saying doesn't exist.
3. I delete one individual entry, then use the checkboxes to select several at once so I can click the Delete button next to the Enter SKU button. I tried both of these when reporting originally (I used to beta test a lot of audio software, I try all options I can think of).
4. Ok so now it's showing one option! Great! I've done what I wanted, I'm gonna click "Save and close"
5. Hmmm.... that's a lot of attributes showing for a listing that should only have 1 option available for sale. We'll click "Revise with displayed fees" and see what happens.
6. Well there's one option available. All good? Well... no. Let's go to step 7...
7. I now have another figure I want to list. I go to that listing again and click on Revise Listing. When that loads, I scroll down a bit, and yeah that's a lot more than the one variation currently for sale:
8. I click through to edit the variations.
9. I click the Edit button next to "Attributes and options you've selected". And there is still LOADS more than the 1 entry shown in the listing. These were deleted! Why are they back?
10. I put in the new Option
11. I click "Update variations" followed by "Add rows automatically", and scroll down to variation photos and variation combinations... and lo and behold, it's added all the superfluous entries from step 5. All the entries I JUST DELETED ON STEP 3.
As specified in an earlier post, this is every entry I've ever had on the listing. This includes entries I deleted *months* ago, in the way recommended to you by tech support earlier.
The only way to stop them coming up, is to do this every time, which I'm sure you can imagine is a lot tougher when there's a mix of in stock and not in stock items:

Hi bobsbrickstuff, thanks for your reply and for confirming.
I'll pass this on to the technical team, and get back to you as soon as I can.
Thank you,
Marco
