Cannot login - need to change phone number

I have an issue and eBay support are of little help.

The issue - I have another eBay account that I use occasionally.

I recently changed my phone number, and thought I updated new number everywhere.

But completely forgot to update it on that account - now when I try to login it wants "to make sure it's really" me. And the only option there is to send SMS to my old number.

I cannot get access to that number anymore.

I have been in contact with eBay support since a week, but I have a feeling they don't even understand the issue.

Any advice please? Becoming quite desperate at this point to be honest.

Thank you for reaching out.

eBay customer support should be able to request the phone number update for you on your account. We are unable to check accounts on the community but if you contact customer support through your verified account then you can request for them to check your other account. They will need to perform security checks and check the details with you and then should be able to request the update of the phone number.

One way around this is to download the eBay app as it should give you the choice of receiving a text or email.

Once logged in you will be able to change your phone number in settings under account info.

Press on the phone number and it will bring up a page where you can change it.

I have the same problem. I now want to completely delete my ebay account as i don't trust these w*****s anymore but I've tried everything to contact them to no avail. The first eBay rep simply lied to me (Marissa) and said she had sorted it - utter filthy lies. The second one not only lied to me Mhiko or something like that!) telling me there was a way to sort it which didn't exist, he then cut me off before I could try and before I realised he was also a dirty liar! I'm utterly furious with these *bleep*!!!

This is pathetic. I had my account for over 20 years then I discover I'm suspended and I can't login or seek support from eBay. I'm also told over eBay chat that once suspended the account can't be reinstated. 

If I'm suspended it's by no fault of mine. 

Worst company ever.

If you are able to log into your eBay account go to account settings> personal information> contact details and edit.

If you are unable to log into your eBay account contact customer support.They will need to perform security checks and check the details with you and then should be able to request the update of the phone number.

I have had the same issue. I did eventually get to a phone number and called it. Unfortunatelty it was an automated number. It kept giving me two options, one was to hear an automated message on how to login in, which was of no help, the other was to receive a text with a link. I cannot receive text links, as I cant log in. I could not even login to go to this forum so I had to sign up for a new account. Absolutely dreadful system.

The problem is you cant get through to anyone at customer support without logging in, which you cant do without being able to receive a text.

The automated voice bot is utterly useless. ebay, hire some staff 9real people with a brain).

Now you've created a new account and logged in try contacting customer services with it and see if they will help you with your old account. After wasting hours looking for a way to communicate with someone I set up a new account and a chat box popped up, this was on a Monday. I then spent another hour and got passed to 3 separate people to just change a mobile number. By Friday I had had enough and emailed them to close my account but on Saturday the number had been changed and I'm able to use my account after nearly 1 week. The simple solution is to have an option to send a code to your registered email address. I can only think that this "force" of   smart phone use is related CBDC and a form of social programing. A email option would eliminate the need for a phone for some.

The point is you cannot login, as it sends a TEXT code to your old number.

you cant get to chat as you need to login. amazing, do any normal people create these support pages and any normal peopleUat the process. bet they dont.

Even Microsoft aren't this stupid. Why can't eBay just give you the option for authenticating via eMail as a backup? Ridiculous system.

Apparently they trialled email verification but it didn't work properly so they dropped it from browsers.

The eBay app had email and text verification but the email option disappeared for a while.

However I discovered a few weeks ago that email verification has reappeared on the app for me at least.

If you are lucky it might be there for you as well.

You should be able to change your mobile number on this page.

You will have to sign in again to be able to access the page and there should be both email and text options for verification.

Alternatively if you use the eBay app go to settings, select personal information then select your mobile number, press the > next to it and the change mobile page will appear.

Clicking on your Picture/Avatar circled at top right of forum page/screen ... then ...

From Profile dropdown, click  My eBay > Account > Addresses to see if you can edit details there ?.
