Im a totally new seller. I sold an item and was notified it had sold within minutes. It tells me that it has been paid for but when I click on the item to find the address to send it to, it tells me that its sold and awaiting payment. Does this mean that Ebay/Paypal have not paid me or that the winners payment has not been processed. I know things are a little slower at the moment but it would be 4 + weeks between sale and payment being made. I feel a bit for the buyer if he has paid.
Go to your paypal account. Can you see the payment in there? It may be held but you should be able to see it immediately. Never post an item unless you see the payment in papyal and only ever post to the address paypal give you.
If you can't see the payment then something has gone wrong so you must not post. Check to see if you got your paypal address wrong in your listng.
As @pixiesen2012 tells you [unless something is set up wrong] the money is perfectly safe.
It is very unwise to rely on eBay for day to day living unless you have a buffer-zone as [admittedly rarely] the money can be reclaimed up to 180 days
Standard procedure for new, returning/occasional sellers and Payments withouttracking/delivery confirmation may be subject to a 21 day hold as per this policy ... see the options that you can use to release the funds earlier >>

Check that you have the correct email address for payment in your PayPal account ? ... using a PC/Laptop (Phone Apps often miss full details), always Login directly to your PayPal account to check the transaction status and PP messages ie. Paid/Pending/Held/OK/Safe to send to address given there etc. ... you cannot expect buyers to wait until funds clear.

New and returning sellers are subject to a hold on the payments but the payment goes directly to your paypal account and shows as held/pending.

Log into your paypal account.
You may have to claim the payment
or confirm your email address.
If the payment isn't showing in paypal and the email address that was used for ebay is different to the one you use for paypal you will need to add the ebay email address to your 'profile' in paypal.
if you have left it longer than 30 days the money will have been returned to the buyers and you will need to contact them and ask them to repay.
Never post the item until you see the payment in your paypal account.
