HAS ANYONE ELSE GONE ONTO 'MANAGED PAYMENTS'? I'M HORRIFIED BY THESE NEW CHARGES.

Hi, I'm a private seller on ebay, everything is my own or my husband's. I was recently transferred to Managed Payments but am horrified and angry at the new charges.  I thought there'd been an error until I rang them and spoke to someone.  He told me we are now payng 15% commission whereas previously it was 10% for ebay and about 2.5% PayPal.  

Your thoughts would be welcome,

No idea where you got 15% from, as that's not correct. Neither is your PayPal approximation of 2.5%...

The selling-cum-payment-processing fee you pay on Managed Payments is 12.8% plus 30p.  So it's actually slightly less than before, as the PayPal payment processing fee you were paying in addition to Ebay's 10% selling fee was 2.9% plus 30p.

In reply to rusticrye, I did say that I spoke to a member on the Managed Payments team. He also told me that some, including himself, had disagreed with the new commission for sellers of low cost items, at all the meetings. So that was where I got it from. If I can't believe them who do I believe? He told me that the 30p you mention is added into the 15%.

he isn't very good at maths! on low value items the 30p will make the % 15% but on higher value items it won't, so it is better to look at it as 12.8% plus 30p to work out what you will be charged,

for private sellers the difference between managed payments and paypal payments is pennies you really aren't paying a lot more


on your last sale item £9.99 plus £4.30 P&P

the old fees would have added up to £2.16

on managed payments you were charged £2.23

As I believe I've pointed out before, you are wrong. PayPal's standard fee is 2.9% plus 30p.  Check it out for yourself. It changed to this ages ago, from 3.4% plus 20p.

Yes, I know what you wrote - I read it. I just couldn't believe that an Ebay agent would come up with something so massively, gigantically, and humungously wrong. So I assumed it was a percentage you'd arrived at rather than a figure that the agent had actually quoted. This assumption was helped along by you having quoted a completely wrong PayPal percentage too.

If the agent actually did indeed quote that percentage, and it wasn't something you came up with, report him to Ebay, as he should be sacked.

Whatever, be aware from now on that there is no need at all to contact Ebay to find out what the fees are, or for anything else. All the information you could possible need is in the Seller Centre, and in the Help pages with their integral search. If you'd had a read when you were switched to Managed Payments, and done an accurate comparison instead of using guesswork, it would have saved you all this hassle and worry.

Thank you but it actually wasn't me who was wrong. I was given the facts I
stated by an advisor of the Managed Payments team at eBay. Obviously he
had his facts wrong.

As I said before, the information was NOT guesswork, it was given to me by
an eBay advisor of the Managed Payments team.
Actually, I'll think twice before asking for advice on Community in the
future, due to some rather unpleasant replies.
