I have an excellent rating for buying/selling on ebay as does the lady I'm having the disagreement with. I sent a dress she bought from me to the address supplied by ebay when they informed me the item had sold. Turns out there was a different address (and apparently the current one) on paypal. God knows where the parcel is, all this only happened a week ago and I always print my own address on all packages. Problem is this lady has just asked that I give her a refund. I've kept it friendly and told her to raise a claim with ebay. I suggested she go to her previous addressmto see if the parcel is there?? I have heard that ebay always take the side of the buyer and if this is true then I want you to be aware of my "side of the story".
Your side of the story only says 1 thing, that it was your error.
You should refund the buyer immediately and hope item comes back to you if person at address it was sent to refuses to accept it and you have put your return address on it.
If buyer opens a claim they will automatically win.
As others have pointed out, you are at fault here, because you shipped to the wrong address. You will have to refund the buyer in full.
In case you're still not clear as to why you're at fault:
Ebay's order confirmation email contains the buyer's Ebay-registered address, and Ebay specifically tell you that that it is not the shipping address (or confirmation of payment) and to wait for payment confirmation before shipping - have a read next time you receive one (better late than never!).
The shipping address is on the PayPal payment confirmation email. And PayPal specifically tell you that that is where you must ship to, or you will lose seller protection. Again, have a read next time you receive one. Buyers can arrange to have items sent direct to friends and family, and often do.
The parcel may have been delivered, or the resident at her previous address may have refused it. If the latter, it will eventually be returned to you if you included a return address on or in the package. That is the best you can hope for.
you were in the wrong,
you should only send to the address provided with the payment,
as buyers can change the delivery address when they pay
because you sent to the wrong address ebay will side with the buyer and force you to refund and give you a defect,
so you need to accept the refund as soon as she opens a case, that way you will avoid the defect
You should always send a package to the address that Paypal give you when the buyer pays.
If the buyer does open an item not received case either with ebay or Paypal and you cannot prove delivery (via tracking) to that address then you will lose the case and will have to refund the buyer in full.
You probably won't be able to claim from Royal Mail unless you can prove the package hasn't been delivered to the address you posted it to.
