listing inaccuracies

There have been many times in the past when I've come across a listing which contains inaccurate information. One example was a West Midlands Travel tie, inaccurately described as a West Midlands PTE tie from the 1970s. As someone who has been collecting bus memorabilia since 1987, I have amassed so much knowledge over time, I consider myself an expert so, if this tie was from the 1970s then I'm J.K. Isaac, Director General of the PTE back then.

Another example of glaring listing inaccuracy is a Greater Manchester PTE M-blem cap/lapel badge currently listed as a Manchester Corporation Transport Department cap badge, which it clearly isn't because Manchester Corpy used the city's coat-of-arms as a cap badge. If I had a pound for every time I've had to contact the seller responsible, beginning with the words 'I think you should consider amending the listing...', I'd be rich. And this is with good reason because information like that could mislead those who might just buy, make an offer on or bid on the item, someone who is new to collecting transport memorabilia. No, it just shouldn't be allowed to happen.

I remember years ago, I had a saucer bearing the logo of the Manchester Corporation Transport Social & Athletic Society, who must have run the canteens. Anyway, I was going to list it on eBay but I never got the chance to, plus the fact I never got round to contacting the GMTS (Greater Manchester Transport Society) as to when it dated from. Unlike most sellers, I believe in doing a lot of research.

However, you can go too far when taking sellers to task over this. A few years ago, I pushed a seller once too many, using my second account at that time, resulting in its suspension.

Re: listing inaccuracies

True,  some sellers do have bad descriptions either by accident or design,  however, all buyers are fully protected under eBay's 30 day MBG,  Money Back Guarantee policy to receive a full refund if receiving an item,  not as described.

I see your point in trying to bring this to the sellers,  all you can do is send a polite message,  which may or may not be received gracefully!

Re: listing inaccuracies

I always do send a polite message, telling them why they should change but not all are received gracefully and that's when I often resort to facebook

Re: listing inaccuracies

Many sellers are picking up lots at auction with items like these mixed in and not necessarily the knowledge or incentive to do more than cursory research when they come to list them on eBay.

I see this a fair bit when I am listing similar sorts of items, an error on one eBay listing gets copied repeatedly. I have been helped with advice on things like ancient coins in the past by other users who have messaged me to tell me the Roman emperor the coin depicts etc. It can be useful and I don’t mind it.

On the up side the listing errors can be a way the savvy buyer finds the eBay gems that nobody else has spotted.
