I received a 30 day warning to upgrade my private eBay account to a business account or face restrictions. This has been triggered by me selling some high value items in the run up to Christmas. I collect marvel statues and some are very expensive so I can understand why the algorithm would pick this up. But talking to eBay CS there is no appeals or logical human intervention for cases like this.
They did spout some nonsense about regulation but there is no limit on selling your own purchased goods as long as it is not for profit. But ultimately it is because they are missing out on selling fees.
It seems incredibly short sighted that they didn't consider that some people will sell high value goods but this does not mean they are a business. I have explained this to them and the agent said your only choice is to close your account which I cant do for at least 60 days after the last transaction/payout/case. But by this time I will already have a restriction and red flag against my account. This is insane as my account is more than 20 years old and they have made lots of money from me over the years along with many purchases.
I understand the premise of this that there are business sellers abusing the no selling fees, then why did eBay even introduce this. Why not have a large private seller type account where we do still pay fees rather than giving us no choice but to close our accounts where they certainly will not make any money.
To make things worse they said these restriction may even negatively effect my business account. Whilst I would love to close my business account in protest I will not actually do this as I need the income but to think this may impact my business sales is a truly unacceptable practice.
I was told there is no online way to make a formal complaint and this can only be done by posting a letter to their office. I cant see that making it into the hand of anyone who cares or will actually be able to escalate the issue.
Anyone else have experience with this, options, ideas? This also means I wont be able to purchase from eBay any more either as I wont have a private account to do so!
