More and more restrictions sucking the life out of eBay private selling

I collect wargames figures and for years have supplemented the cost by selling duplicates on eBay. Generally they are low value items but there are a lot of them.

The reduction of free listings from 1000 to 300 has hit me hard.

I had a brainwave and set up some new shops.

According to eBay you can have multiple accounts.

BUT when I tried to add my bank details to the new accounts eBay won't allow me to use my bank account as it's get this, already registered with them. I spoke to an eBay human who told me you can't have your bank account (that they already use to pay me and I to pay them) associated with multiple eBay accounts...

Today I looked at some unsold listings and found that I could no longer edit them as I could before. On top of this there is now a warning that you have a limit of 8 relistings... I despair.

From what you say Ebay may deem your actions as unusual activity and have flagged your account.

They may (rightly or wrongly) also be wondering about your "status".

Its surely breaking a policy to open more than 1 account with the sole intention to bypass the fee's.

I've said it before but if anyone is needing more than 300 listings they should be expected to pay for the upkeep of the site, its only fair.

So what you are saying you is you want more for the free version of eBay than people who pay fees???

and as its been said you opened a new account to avoid paying fees and even told eBay that's what you were doing your lucky to have an account at all.

Agreed the reduction of free listings from 1000 down to 300 is frustrating for private sellers.

What some do not understand is the free listing quota also includes items that are manually relisted.  When you list items for Auction the maximum length of auction is 10days, so you could end up relisting items 3 or 4 times a month, which will quickly use up your free listing quota.

One option to reduce the number of relistings is to list items as Buy It Now listings instead of for Auction.  Buy It Now listings stay live for 30days, so reduce the number of times the item will need to be relisted.

Another option is to use 'Auto relist' instead of manually relisting.  Auto relists are free and, therefore, don't count towards the 300 quota:

Auction-style listings

If you select the auto-relist option (if available) when you create your listing:

  • Auctions with a duration of 5 days or more will be automatically relisted up to 8 times
  • Auctions with a duration of 1 or 3 days will be automatically relisted up to 8 times as a 7-day listing
  • Auto-relists are free, except for listings in vehicles categories

Thank you for the information - so do manually re-listing count towards the quota?

Also I cannot find where to monitor the amount of listings used and what is left to use etc... it is not clear to me on overview. Not that I list that many usually around 20 or less , many of which have auto-resisted... but I have some of my childrens toys  and Christmas decorations to offer.

Manual relisting counts towards the 300.
