simple delivery query.

I'm probably going to stop selling on ebay if this simple delivery is enforced on me as a seller. However I may continue as a buyer. With all the hullaballo generated over this topic one thing I am unsure about is, as a buyer do I get to chose how I want the delivery made? Because as far as I can see from the numerous posts about this there are only two options ebay are offering, standard or 48, but no mention is made of who the carriers are offering this service. I get the impression from these boards that standard is by Evri and 48 is RM 48 tracked. Along with my selling activity I only buy from sellers using RM as I avoid couriers at all costs.  So if I'm unable to chose RM as a buyer, then it looks like I won,t be selling or buying here anymore.

Amazon left something on my doorstep last week and i'm in the street. There's notices all over the door what to do with it, am thinking that some of them can't read

All my listings offer free delivery which in the past Ebay seemed to encourage, but I've not noticed any comment as to whether this will continue with SD let alone how it would operate.  I emphasise this in my description of the item.  I've read that when it is introduced it will only apply to new listings so presumably my Buy It Now listings can carry on offering it.  I wonder what new listings mean - will a Buy It Now listing continue outside SD when it is automatically relisted?  And what about sell similar - will that be outside SD?   So much is uncertain with no opportunity to consider how to best handle it.

This is a screenshot from a current listing using Simple Delivery showing your choices. As you can see, there are no details other than the option of Standard Tracked or Expressed Tracked. So if you were buying this item, you would have no idea which service was being used, and it's no point messaging the seller as they won't know either.
As the buyer protection fee is supposed to provide 24/7 access to phone or chat, if I do decide to buy something (and I'm not planning ion buying much on here while this system is in place) and it does have Simple Delivery, I will ring ebay to ask which service is being used ... though I'm guessing they won't know either, until the label is actually bought!

As a buyer I'd choose Evri over Royal Mail every time.  Evri just brought me two parcels, the Royal Mail one posted at the same time by another seller is still a no show/no tracking.

You can't blame the drivers, they have insane schedules.

Are your notices multi lingual? 😄

Including Braille?  🙂

@kempseykate

It's not relevant to show what the seller sees when listing with SD.  We need to see what a buyer sees when they buy your SD item.  At that point ebay may, or may not, offer them a choice.  I've not seen anyone show that yet.

But I'm sure it will all become clear when ebay make an announcement several months before this comes in as mandatory in March.  Hmmm.  Time flies.

Thank you - so according to the screenshot... @kempseykate

The standard delivery and the express delivery is showing the exact same Estimated dates of delivery... so why the higher cost for express? ...  there is no way that as a buyer or even a seller that I would be using a " non-specific " postal courier - I want to know who the postal carrier is, surely eBay cannot be serious with this?

Another (minor) issue with Simple Delivery – why are buyers being asked to rate sellers on the cost of postage, when eBay sets the price?

I bought an item using this option recently, and when leaving feedback was asked to rate the "Postage costs" out of 5. As usual eBay helpfully displayed the price I'd paid for postage, but predictably it was wrong (£2.29 instead of £2.75) as the VAT had been ignored...

Erm, the screenshot I showed was what a buyer sees! I was looking at it as a buyer.

There is no choice beyond Standard Tracked or Express Tracked.

I have seen examples with differing times, I think this is just ebay not having a clue about delivery times. I know it has frequently been raised on the boards about EDDs when ebay show the same timescale for 1st & 2nd class.  But of course, we are told 'everything is working as it should' 🙄

Ooops, sorry Kate, I must pay better attention when I'm sitting at the back.  Thanks.  Very interesting.  And insane that ebay thinks it's going to be good to make this mandatory.

This is really not a good idea for buyers and sellers. It will appeal to ebay as another stream of revenue, but doesn't do much for customer service. Do private sellers still have the ability to set their own dispatch times?

As a seller I'd want to know too, a) as I would want to decide what was appropriate for the item and delivery location and b) because I wish to be in control of my daily plans and activities.

I do not think so......Simple delivery items must be posted 3 days max but ebay recommend within 2 days.

Not sure if its even less if a buyer chooses express delivery.

I've been out walking my dog before and have seen Amazon parcels propped up against peoples doors in full view of the street. It only takes one dishonest person to see it and it could be gone. The worst thing is some I've seen look like they could have been posted through the letterbox.

Quite often i go rescue packages like that against the house directly opposite mine.  Or if Glyns on the drive cleaning the car he rescues packages put in bins on bin day.    I often wonder how many packages we miss.

If you're right, that's crazy.  If a buyer selects Express they want it fast, not wait three, or even two, days for it to be shipped.

With Express, the general rule is that if ordered before 10.30am it's despatched same day.
