Did anyone notice that ebay stopped offering full compensation for items lost by Royal Mail? I just checked Royal Mail tracked services 48 and 24. They used to offer compensation up to £150. NOT ANYMORE! Sellers beware - now it is ONLY UP TO £75. Buyers complain my postage is too high and how I supposed to protect myself as a seller if an item gets lost????

Could you please show where this information is coming from?
There are different compensation levels depending on whether you use simple delivery, packlink, or buy direct from RM, which are you referring to?

I was just trying to list a brooch. I usually offer a tracked service on jewellery (not simple delivery). Now ebay shows in small print next to the selection the compensation is up to £75 when just yesterday it was up to £150.

I don't believe buyers are prepared to pay £10 on postage (special delivery) if I send something for £76 or more.

so I refer to Royal Mail tracked services directly on ebay website when creating a new listing

If you are not using simply delivery but custom postage then that is in line with price changes from the Royal Mail website but its supposed to not come into play until the 6th October.

there is no simple delivery on all items and besides, am I really protected by ebay if a valuable item gets lost? Ebay issues a tracked 48 service for some of my items like scarves worth £200+. it is never special delivery label. Am I protected and will see all the money back if something goes wrong?

A quick look at your items shows your scarfs are on simply delivery "standard tracked delivery" these are covered by Ebay for lost and damage in transit for the full price sold. (up to £750) As they are through simply delivery.
Your brooch is on custom postage "you pick the price to charge" so if lost or damaged in transit you claim of Royal Mail as there comp is now going to £75.00 then if the item is priced more than that you would have to send it via special delivery to get the full amount back or Royal mail would only give you the £75.

When I try to change postage on my jewellery it says - Simple delivery is not available for this item. When I actually checked the simply delivery labels at the post office they were always "tracked 48" so how am I protected when selling more valuable goods?

Jewellery is not eligible for Simple Delivery. It is on the list of items that are prohibited.
For items that are eligible for Simp!e Delivery you are protected by eBay against loss or damage in transit for the full value of the item. The protection is provided by eBay not the carrier.

what do you mean prohibited? is the only option - special delivery on jewellery now?

Let's be clear, Royal Mail reduced the cover to £75 for Tracked 48 (not eBay). Yes, it was posted on these Boards to warn Sellers who send directly.
Items sent through eBay's Simple Delivery are still covered up to £750, even when they go via RM T48 service.

yes, but jewellery is not covered so most of my items are not covered

To be quite honest, fashonista27, having looked at your 259 listings - the vast majority of which are New or New (other) jewellery items - I am wondering just why you are using Simple Delivery in the first place.
Simple Delivery is for Private sellers...

Yes that is correct they are not covered via Ebay.
So you buy the right amount of cover via the carrier eg Royal Mail. Buying from them direct I find is better than doing it through Ebay.
When you use custom postage you don't have to get the labels through Ebay

Not everybody will be aware, but from today, Royal mail raised some postage prices and they have indeed changed the level of compensation for Tracked 24 and 48 from £150 to £75.
Let's be clear though, this is Royal Mail and nothing to do with Ebay.

The changes apply from 6th October not today, but as you say are nothing to do with eBay and have absolutely no bearing on anything sent using Simple Delivery.

Thank you for the correction.
I knew the rise was on the way and thought it would be 1st of the month. I should have checked.
