You need to open a return case for the item and enter that tracking number. Have you done this? If not do so now.
Go right of the item in your Purchase History and from More Actions select return this item selecting the reason for the return.
Enter that tracking number into the case details.
If the seller doesn't refund you 48 hours after the receipt of their item, you escalate the case, ask eBay to step in and they'll force the refund.

Did you already open an eBay return for this order, or did you just arrange a return direct with the seller via eBay messages?

Ah, that wasn't a good move. Returns must be sent back via eBay's returns process.
The seller must be contacted first (which they are when you open a return), you can't just send an item back randomly.
You can try opening a return now, as advised by @tressygirl but bear in mind your seller may not have to accept the return, in which case it will close in the sellers favour.
What's the reason for the return?
