mark item as collected

Two items I've sold and which have been collected in person, without either buyer having gone to the trouble to download the code needed to show they've collected the item, still show on my account as if waiting for me to send them off. How can I mark them, or get eBay to mark them, as collected?

You can't mark it as collected yourself anymore.  You will either need the buyer to provide the collection code or mark it as collected at their end.  You will still receive payment for the item but may have to wait up to 14 days.

Rarely a buyer collects from me in person. However when they do, I will not release the item without the buyer producing a collection code. It's my only proof I have that they collected the item. There are not many people who can't look at their phone to provide it to you. Be assertive with buyers with future collections.

From my last buying and collecting experience,  ebay has made it extremely difficult to find the collection code on a phone.  Instead they push you, the buyer, to mark as collected.

If you want the code you have to find the email you received when you paid.

Sorry, but I don`t understand why you would let the item go without scanning the buyers code? It is your ONLY proof that the item has been approved and collected! If the buyer turns up without the code or QR, then they do not take the item.

Thanks for responding and your advice.

To answer your question: in neither case did these buyers strike me as people who wanted to pull a fast one, only as people who hadn't understood they'd had to opt for personal collection, to get the code etc. And in each case I did take a picture of the buyer holding the item, so I do have proof (in addition to the message trail) they'd come to collect it.

Still, having now realised I can't mark the them as collected, you're right that in future I should tell a buyer wishing to collect that they have to click to do so in order to have the code to complete the transaction when they come.

Now that I've understood I can't mark the item as collected, if any future buyer wants to come and collect, I'll explain they need to click for the option and download the code which will be necessary for us to complete the transaction, and for me to release the item purchased.

Your simplest option is to ensure that they are aware, before they turn up, when you are making arrangements.
Then as long as they are aware no code = no collection, they should comply.

Unfortunately ebay will take no notice of whatever photo's you may have taken of the buyer and the item......

ebay do not see these as 'proof' of anything.

Yeah, just to back up the last post. There have been cases where sellers have video footage of buyers picking up their items, whether it is cctv or door bell cameras, etc, yet ebay have not taken it into account when ruling in these cases.  They have been consistent with this, if a buyer makes a claim, the only protection the seller has,  is the successful input of the collection code.

And yes, too many buyers are playing dumb with regards the collection code, even when they are warned in advance by the seller they need to provide one upon collection. Similarly there are sellers who regard it as excessive / unnecessary by eBay, then complain when they are deceived.

Sorry but you have no PROOF at all. eBay do not have photo ID of anyone using the platform (and even if they did, they would not be able to use it). How do eBay know that your photo is of the buyer? It could be your cousin `Bubba` for all they know!
