ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period. hel

Re the reduction from Ocober 1st in listings for private sellers.

i am a private seller , selling off a lifetime collection of books on ebay as im downsizing on retirement.

i currently have well over 1000 items listed which dont attract listing fees at the moment because books sell slowly and the fixed price listings roll over from month to month. i long ago finished listing the books in my library , so my ongoing  'new listings' are around 10 items per month or less.

i have two queries;

on october first will my 1000+ listings roll over without incurring listing fees?

Also i am due to go on an extended holiday over the period of the changeover date October 1st and was going  to  schedule a full months 'time away'.  I return in mid /late october.  at the end of my time away will my 1000 plus listings be subject to listing fees?

any thoughts would be welcome

I think that your items will relist as normal, i.e. after the 30 days and so not count towards the new limit.

Doesn't 'time away' just give a message to prospective buyers that you are away and to expect a delay in the item being sent ?

you will have to limit your listings to 300 only and any above that will incur a listing fee.  How many books do you sell a month?

It cleary says NEW listings and so auto-renewals wont count just in the same way as they don't currently count towards your 1000 free listings

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

This page explains that re-listed buy-it-now listings do NOT count towards your monthly allowance of 300.

  • Good 'Til Cancelled listings (at the time of first listing). If you're a private seller, renewed Good til Cancelled listings will not be deducted from your allocation of free listings in subsequent months

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

ime in a similar position been selling off mu husbands "hoarde " since approx 2012/2014 trying to reclain two rooms and various cupboards not to mention the loft and only just dented it
took a lot of time to create my listings now will have to end 400 + as they arent items that sell easily
ie as at least 6 out of the last 10 sales are items ive been relisting free for at least the last 10 or more years
-
i think ebay just want to end private selling hence changing the search algorithms in favour of buisiness or sponsored itemsstarted way back when they decided to take fees from postage and got steadily worse

You wont have to 'end' any listings...the limit applies to NEW listings just in the same way as the current 1000 free listings does.

Anything that you have on buy it now , good till cancelled will automatcically relist as normal after 30 days and won't count towards your 300 free listings per month

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

I don't think eBay want to end private selling, 300 listings is a fair amount - I get that amount on my business accounts selling with a basic shop buy it now and 50 auction listings, and I've been here for nearly 20 years.

Personally, I think it will be a good thing, if you have been listing the same items free for 10 years and they are not selling, they will certainly be clogging up things - and if lots of folk are doing it will certainly affect searches.

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

As I stated, it only applies to NEW listings, 'not to existing buy in now good till cancelled' ones, they will continue to get re-newed every 30 days as before and not count towards monthly limits, just as they currently don't

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

You do know after 90 days any listings fall down the search results eventually will be impossible to find.

Which means you'll have to create a new listing in the form of a sell similar

Yes I'm aware of that but that has nothing to do with the topic in question

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

hi . thanks for your interest. i understand case re buy it now listings which all mine are. i am just worried that i will have scheduled time away during changeover date to new rules. Ebays explanation of time away is not too clear on this as they specfically say , any fees due during  time away including listing fees will continue. hence i am worried that when my items auto relist after time away will be subject  to 300 limt.

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

i was not  aware that  ebay search algorhythms 'lose' your listings after 90 days.  i can of course relist my 1000 plus listings at 300 per month over several months.  but i thought ended listings disappear   after 90 days meaning after that period i would have to relist the remaining several hundred listings from scratch rather than relying on resurrecting them from my 'ended listings' .

They don't lose your active listings, I have listings that have been on for year that show up in searches, all depends on how the buyer searches, by date, by lowest price first etc etc

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

The problem of course is that ebay need to keep sellers paying to list -- on Delcampe it is free and there is none of the scalping people for percentage of their postage.   EBay only a few years ago charged people to display an item too

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

Hi, just got the message that ebay are dropping the 1000 free listings to 300. I too have tons of stuff to sell & now be looking at other sites to sell on. Ebay are SO GREEDY. I might even close my account when this JOKE comes into effect. There are sites that don't charge for selling & listing like ebay. I know for a fact that people are going off ebay because of their GREED. They are a disgrace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

This is untrue. Yes, older listings do feature less prominently, but they are still there, and they are still found in searches. I often sell items which have been listed for over two years.

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

They dont lose them but they fall down the search result. Search uses relivance so listings with no sales that are older than 90 days have low relivance so feature less and less.

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

Snap and other factors are at play to calculate positioning in search results such as keywords, number sold if it's a multi listings and seller level.

Re: ebay reduction to 300 listings for private sellers . scheduling holiday over changeover period.

I never said they dissappear but lower search means they are less likely to sell older than 90 days are unlikley to sell unless someone specifically searches for as in exact title. so selling in a low volume catgory such as example jazz record by a specific artist on a specific date will feature.

The cut off as stated by ebay themselves is 90 days when it will feature less and less
