eBay now refund your buyer if the item gets lost in the post

eBay are now responsible for refunding buyers where items get lost or damaged in the post and are sent after 4th February when the new Buyer Protection kicks in (private sellers only)

Will this protection apply to untracked items?

If so, I can see potential for lots of scams!

I also got refunded when I received a faulty item as a private seller.

I didnt have to send it back.

Seller refused to send returns label.

The buyer protection fee is not about refunding buyers when an item is lost or damaged.

Simple Delivery states the seller will "be protected if the item is lost or damaged from the point the item is scanned into the carrier's delivery network and until it's marked as delivered" - subject to particular conditions. https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/posting-items/setting-postage-options/simple-delivery?id=5575#se...
