eBay changed my selected courier

Ok so I sold an item using "simple delivery" and I selected "Royal Mail" as the only option as its a fragile item. Yet when I come to print the label it's for "Evri".

Apparently I was told the buyer can select a different courier from what I specified, so now I have to find an Evri pick-up point rather than use my local post office.

What if I live in the middle of nowhere and there is a post office but no Evri pick-up point nearby.

What a stupid system. Are they trying to get rid of their private sellers? Maybe they just want business sellers only don't want us anymore, but don't have the guts to just kick us off the platform.

The buyer can only choose Standard Tracked or Express Tracked, they can't choose a particular courier.

Many POs take Evri parcels, have you checked yours?

Yes, true.

But if the seller had 'de-selected' Evri, only leaving R.M., how was this possible?

If both choices were R.M. , standard would be tracked 48 and express would be tracked 24, surely?

(I can absolutely understand it if it's the other way round: if the seller has opted out of R.M. and the buyer lives somewhere where Evri fear to tread...... then a seller wanting to use Evri would *have* to use R.M.......)

Out of interest :@jrh_james  you mentioned you were told the buyer could 'select' the one you don't want to use..... do you know who told you that?

I was told by customer services that the buyer had selected Evri and it was possibly because they live in an area Royal Mail don't service (Durham so doubtful).

eBay changed my selected courier

I had a situation where I wanted to purchase an item and I will NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES use Evri. I contacted the seller who assured me it would be sent by Royal Mail. Item arrived on the doorstep by Evri (framed watercolour) and yes, you guessed it, smashed. I confronted the driver who just said 'claim for it'.

As it was simple delivery, eBay refunded me in full immediately on submission of the relevant pictures, which is fine but it doesn't address the issue of a unique (by definition) antique watercolour painting being irreplaceable.

The point here is that I phoned CS and asked how I could ensure delivery by Royal MAIL and NOT by Evri and he told me that I could choose the courier at checkout. I couldn't see anywhere to do this and he said the option would only appear AFTER checkout and payment. After much arguing, I raised it as a complaint and received an email from ebay telling me that a specialist team had closed my complaint as the information given by the agent was correct.

As it is so stressful and time consuming  now to buy here, I won't any more, I'll buy elsewhere.

I think they got it backwards

courier could be changed from evri to Royal Mail , not the other way around, as it’s only evri that doesn’t service certain areas , not Royal Mail

What a load of old cobblers.   (CS I mean... not you mate!)

Every time CS come up with some invented bovine manure that they swear blind is true, I find myself astonished that a multi-national tech company doesn't seem to care that their employees are liars.....😒

Do you have it marked as Royal Mail in your account preferences AND on the listing?

I only use Evri for items bigger than small parcel.  I ended all my items when I hadn't had a sale for 2 weeks after I was forced onto Not-So-Simple-Delivery on 1 July.  I may relist next month once I'm over my hissy-fit for micro-managing an item I own!

Seems there is no end of things eBay comes up with to torture sellers!

"Apparently I was told the buyer can select a different courier from what I specified"

No, if it's Customer Service who told you that, it's really bad that they are giving out such nonsense, either deliberately or because they haven't been trained properly.  The buyer isn't told who the choice of courier is, they only get to choose 24 hour (express) or 48 hour (standard) delivery.

It's ebay themselves that reserve the right to change the courier from the one the seller selected.  One reason why they might override your selection of Royal Mail is if they make more money with Evri than with RM, or if they are behind in their targets for Evri because too many people are choosing RM.  If that's the case, then there doesn't seem to be anything that ebay won't do to upset their customers in order to make a fast buck.

I mean I'm unlikely to sell here again, but if they did that to me, I'd apologize to the buyer and cancel the sale. They can't pay me enough to ever send something via Evri/Hermes.

Was it the laser disc lamp?
If so the postage price shown on the listing is an Evri only price (5.64 2-10kg parcel).

Your current live listing is Evri only as well (2.96 for a Small Parcel). Are you sure you haven't inadvertently clicked Evri only instead of RM only? (Whatever you select applies to all listings, you can't select Evri for one and RM for another, unless you run 2 accounts.)

Not checked seller's sold items.  But reckon a lot get of sellers get caught out with the new fiasco trying to list just one item with Evri to find all their listings are changed.  And they need to change it in their a/c setting to only tick RM as well as ensure all their current listings are RM.

Before I ended all my items I went through each one and found some still had the option to choose a courier, all had been changed to 2 days dispatch, large letter changed to small parcel, etc.  It took ages to check each of my 60 items.

I choose RM cos I can reach more buyers - the islands, Scottish Highlands, etc.  I got caught out using Evri to N Ireland - they charged me a lot extra as the buyer was in a remote area which incurred a surcharge.  Does Not-So-Simple-Delivery cover that I wonder?

@kyanyama

My first SD sale was by Evri to a 'remote' area. The buyer was just charged the regular price, item was delivered, no extra charge to either  buyer or myself.

The buyer actually saved quite a bit on the postage for that sale, by my using SD.  Had I been buying the label pre-SD, they would have been charged the extra £3 for being 'remote', and had a bit more added to cover the cost of the extra insurance required, but as eBay cover for up to £750, there was no extra to pay there, either.
