eBay Is Dead

I am thinking eBay as a selling platform is dead since the seller protection was added ? I wonder if eBay have notice the decline in sellers since new rules started . In my 20 years of selling on eBay Ive never seen it like this

I have 20 watchers on my account , most of them are still selling but their sales have fallen to almost to nothing over the last 2 months and a few sellers have gone from the platform , its like all the buyers have gone

I wonder if eBay have notice the fall in sales or do they really care anymore

Is eBay a sicking ship and now doomed ?

Re: eBay Is Dead

Yes it is awful now, eBay suits just offering poor service and visibility at inflated costs, they must think we are stupid with the buyer protection con(fee) , just everything possible to extort money from private sellers, I’ve been here 16years and it’s not really worth my time and effort now. Very Sad.

Re: eBay Is Dead

Buyers want to know the exact amount they are dishing out to buy an item. When they slapped unrealistic prices, it scared punters away and some probably still think they have to have the high protection fee for items. Sellers didn’t know how to navigate to the old system, thinking that every item requires £2.7+ for postage as ebay deliberately misleads sellers that they have to choose larger price because it has been give prominence on that area. Some sellers didn’t know that under £20 you can still ask buyers to pay £1 because they have to click this and click that. After you’ve done it, they hide the  postage box, like an imp pulling pranks, making seller work doubly hard. Ebay might have a death wish or is manned by millennials.

Re: eBay Is Dead

You have to be streetwise: HMRC should chase after Google, Facebook and Amazon instead of minnows. Those are the sturgeons, and minnows presented so many problems and so much work for so little revenue that they abandoned their threat this year. GO AFTER STURGEONS, NOT MINNOWS WHICH HAVE NO CAVIAR! A man posted that on FB and got banned! LOL! Truth hurts. But that’s what HMRC should be doing. France and Germany fine them big time. Our government incumbents think it’s an honour to be robbed of justified revenue. Apple boss said, “We respect the spirit of the law and taxation.” Change the laws, the taxations on transnationals. Why pamper them?

Incidentally, my sales have been dead. 1 sale this week. So I have time to be a keyboard troll! LOL!

Re: eBay Is Dead

Yes, I agree. Ebay sales have collapsed, especially high end items. It's becoming more like a boot sale. I've had such terrible experiences from ebay customer service, after 20 years I really think I need to leave.

Re: eBay Is Dead

I'd never pay ebay to promote my items. Giving one seller who pays prominence over another who doesn't is as wrong as theme parks selling queue jumping passes. They are selling someone else's queue position it's just not right. It's not even their position in the search results to sell. Still with ebay these days as long as they are making money it doesn't matter if they do wrong and irritate people.

Re: eBay Is Dead

Thats correct, its called advertising.

If you dont have a competitive product, especially if you are a business trying to pretend you are a private seller, you have entered a race to the bottom.

Is so much worse than advertising. Advertising is something a business does to give its product prominence without actively pushing competition aside. Ebay are taking money from both the advantaged and disadvanted seller and that doesn't happen with advertising.

Even if a product is very competitive it can be buried in ebay search results.

Re: eBay Is Dead

Thats a new definition of advertising on me.

It would be fantastic if just for once folks stopped trying to blame eBay for their own problems and say something poisitive .... anything positive.... what a world that would be.

Re: eBay Is Dead

In my case, Ebay is totally to blame, as people will only really see my items if i pay to promote them.  Now that is a fact  been selling on here right from the start.  So i can see what is going on

Re: eBay Is Dead

So, I hear your pain but as I would prefer to keep positive on this forum, I would like to suggest that you look at the first 4 words of your listing titles as that is what all the free searches pick up. You seem to have a lot of spelling mistakes, double spaces. You also use the most competitive phrases eg Mario Kart. When you do that you are placed in a line. Then the algorithm will look at the other factors on your listings. Your images are not at all good, so I think it will indeed push you to the bottom. EBay wants a professional looking website, so listings with spelling mistakes and terrible images, no descriptions etc are not going to get picked up by the searches. I don’t think you are ready to advertise to be honest, I think you have a lot of things to fix first. I can talk though, I don’t have time to fix mine as I sell on a bigger website and it’s much simpler as they post the stuff out for me even cheaper than Royal Mail. So, with the greatest respect, I feel that advertising your listings would indeed be a way to lose money, but I don’t for a second believe that to be eBay’s fault.

Re: eBay Is Dead

Sorry to say you are incorrect here. I sell all over EU on Amazon. In France and UK the govt added an online sales tax. Amazon simply added it to my fees. Guess what, I’m simply adding it to my price! For me, the govt should deploy the AI right now and find all the corrupt wee guys that don’t pay tax by cross linking NI numbers to tax returns and checking against sales on online platforms. A simple estimated assessment for the past 5 years will take HMrC nanoseconds (next year) and reap huge rewards. Whereas to attempt to get a quid from Google and all their friends involved fighting long and expensive legal battles which they invariably lose at the taxpayers expense. No, it’s the wee corrupt guys that haven’t paid tax (or worse, have been claiming benefits) that are going to pay us out this deep hole. Good luck everyone.
