*breaking news - Simple Delivery* Changes to postage rates and delivery options

Last month, we shared that Simple Delivery will be the only delivery option available for private sellers when listing eligible items. We’ve been listening to your feedback whilst rolling out this change, and are introducing a new parcel size option and new postage rates for Simple Delivery, which will come into effect on 20 May, 2025. We’re also working on bringing you even more of the features you’ve requested, and we’re adding a lower-cost option this month where buyers can collect their orders from Evri parcel shops.

After listening to your feedback about the services that matter most to you, we’re introducing ‘0-2kg small’ parcel size options to provide you with a lower price point. We recommend reviewing and amending your live listings that use small or medium parcels from 20 May, to make sure you’re offering your buyers the best prices. For example, if you have a 1-2kg medium parcel, you can change this to a 0-2kg small parcel if the dimensions fit. You’ll be able to amend this from your Active Listings or View Item page. To get the most competitive prices, consider enabling all couriers by going to postage preferences  in your account settings.

Until the new rate comes in, there’s a promotional rate for small and medium parcels (between 0-2kg) to match the Royal Mail pricing you’re used to. This only applies to items that are eligible for Simple Delivery, and will end at 11:59pm on 19 May. After this, the new postage rates will apply.

To continue improving the Simple Delivery experience, we’re rolling out a collect from store option this month with Evri. This will be a cheaper, more convenient option for your buyers, where they can collect their items from the Evri parcel shop or locker of their choice, and save 15% or more on delivery costs.* If you’d like to offer this option to your buyers and have currently excluded Evri from your couriers, be sure to add them back in by going to your postage preferences .

We know that it’s important in some cases for you to be able to choose your preferred courier. As a reminder, you can easily set your postage preferences from your account settings. Currently, Simple Delivery offers services from both Royal Mail and Evri. We recommend enabling all couriers for the most competitive postage rates.

Re: *breaking news - Simple Delivery* Changes to postage rates and delivery options

Even chat GPT is smarted then the eBay team:

Based on the discussions in the eBay UK community, the sentiment among sellers regarding the new Simple Delivery system is predominantly negative.

Key Concerns Raised by Sellers:

Loss of Control Over Shipping Options: Many sellers are frustrated by eBay's mandate to use its Simple Delivery service, which limits their ability to choose preferred couriers like Royal Mail. This change has led some to pause or end their listings in protest.

Increased Costs for Small Items: Sellers dealing with low-value items express concern that the standardized shipping rates under Simple Delivery make it uneconomical to sell inexpensive products. For instance, paying £2.70 for postage on items that could previously be sent for 85p is seen as prohibitive.

Operational Challenges: There have been reports of Post Offices refusing parcels with Simple Delivery labels, leading to confusion and additional effort for sellers who must find alternative drop-off points or couriers.

Delayed Payments: The new system ties seller payments to delivery confirmations, which can delay fund access, especially if there are issues with tracking or courier delays.

eBay's Response:

In light of the backlash, eBay has made some concessions. Notably, items priced at £10 or under in certain categories are now exempt from the mandatory use of Simple Delivery, allowing sellers to choose their shipping methods for these items.

Overall Sentiment:

The general consensus among sellers is one of dissatisfaction with the Simple Delivery changes. Many feel that the new system adds complexity, reduces flexibility, and negatively impacts their ability to conduct business effectively on the platform.

EBAY!!! DO YOU HEAR IT!!???

Re: *breaking news - Simple Delivery* Changes to postage rates and delivery options

Breaking News - ebay is broken.

It's taken me all day to create 2 listings which should of taken 10 minutes.

First item, 2 cartons over 20kg - doesn't fit Simple Delivery and ebay's advice was to to fudge it with Freight only and then sort out delivery costs/pricing/payment with buyer after they've bought it.

Second item I wish to sell in 3 pack sizes which would be a Large Letter, Small Parcel, and Medium Parcel - that doesn't fit Simple Delivery either.

It reminds me of an old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Re: *breaking news - Simple Delivery* Changes to postage rates and delivery options

Its absolutely not been taken into account at all!! Its absolutely *bleep* for our small business now (artificial flower designs) as we are definitely losing money as there's just no bloody options for postage prices especially on our items that have variants or more than one item the postage would go up accordingly to suit the weight/size etc.

Example: Say a wreath priced at £40 16" the postage would be around £8 and we would arrange with royal mail to come and collect it perfect, absolutely no problem.  And if they bought another item on the same sale it was automatically set to change the postage to suit. Now if they buy anything the postage stays exactly the same regardless if they buy one or two items its absolutely ridiculous why have they changed it, there was absolutely nothing wrong!!

Ive just put a new wreath on and there is a matching wall basket as an option so its been listed as single items, wreath £40 and basket £25 and then an option to buy them both for £60.  So if you just want the wreath the postage is £6.59 (up to 1kg) and then if you put both in the basket it still stays at £6.59!! Obviously its gonna cost me a lot more than £6.59 for two parcels as the larger wreath if its listed separately would need to be up to 2kg!!.  Its absolutely bloody ridiculous this new simple delivery and also I will never, ever, ever use Evri, yet they are the only other bloody option im absolutely disgusted.  Something needs to be done about this there needs to be a stand against ebay and these changes its just not fair

If your small business is registered correctly as a business on eBay, there's no requirement to use Simple Delivery.

Re: *breaking news - Simple Delivery* Changes to postage rates and delivery options

'Listening' my *bleep*, if they were actually listening they wouldn't still have it as compulsory!!

Only Ebay could take a working format 'simplify' it and totally *bleep* it up for private sellers thus driving away loads of loyal sellers.

It takes real skill to spoil something that badly!

Re: *breaking news - Simple Delivery* Changes to postage rates and delivery options

I don't run a business I'm a private seller.

I wish we just put stamps on....
It's a 50 minute walk to the EVRI Drop off point and 50 minutes back
.....but only 10 minutes to post office..... Says it all and I've a stack
(A few hundred pounds worth) of 1 st class stamps I bought late last year
just sitting there ...unable to be used. Unless I give free delivery which
makes me well out of pocket....

'I don't run a business I'm a private seller.'

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

s'alright, superchallenge wasn't answering to you!

When you look at the posts on a thread;  Look just under where you see the name of the poster and their feedback number etc.  There you will see a little upwards-pointing arrow with 'in response to [whoever]' next to it....😊

(Superchallenge was answering to legge1963 who definitely *is* running a business, as they admitted it in their posting...)

My question is who's going to be first to report them?

Alternatively, Evri could actually do the job they claim to do and are paid to do.

Changing habits or collecting items probably wouldn't make much difference, anyway. I work from home all week, at a desk that is about 25ft from the front door.

I've had three items dispatched to me via Evri in the last two weeks.

One was delivered successfully on Saturday. It was due on the Thursday and was out for delivery on both the Thursday and the Friday, but let's not split hairs.

The tracking says the other two have been delivered, too, which is nice. I mean, they weren't delivered to my house and I have no idea where they actually are, but it's nice to know that somebody somewhere has them.

It isn't buyer's "habits" that are the problem when it comes to Evri.
