Re: ai

@ett1954 This subject came up on the weekly chat a few weeks ago, there are so many ‘food’ business operating illegally on eBay. Homemade baked products without full ingredients, or  food standards certifications shown. Others have website addresses on photos, all private sellers.
I don’t understand how they get to list in the baked goods categories unless they are a business seller.

Anyway gone off topic.

Re: ai

@bojangled "Anyway gone off topic." - Not really; the OP is enquiring as to whether AI is useful to compile the product descriptions for many of the items he is selling illegally, or at least against eBay's own policy.  It demonstrates exactly that eBay's AI is worth 'spit' otherwise it would be ensuring he was complying with both eBay's own policies and more importantly UK law which I laid out in post # 14.

I should have added that first and foremost AI should be used to ensure sellers are complying with eBay policies and UK law before creating flowery descriptors to listings which appear to be from the double-glazing salesman's handbook of 30 years ago.

Re: ai

I like it but you would need to tweak it a bit.

I use ai description. For the ones I put up

yesterday, all of them were done by ai as I’m not very well at the moment.

Re: ai

AI can be  helpful for structuring eBay listings, but after experimenting, eBay's AI itself is not particularly effective. Instead, I use general-purpose AI tools to enhance my listings in a way that suits my personal style and preferences.

  1. Optical recognition: I start by using AI to analyze the item and provide a basic description.
  2. Structured formatting: Then, I use AI to organize my listing using a detailed set of instructions to make it look exactly how I want.

My process ensures that:

  • Key details like dimensions and condition appear first.
  • Descriptive information about decoration, colour, age, etc., follows in the middle.
  • The listing ends with a short, clear summary.

By doing this, my listings almost replicate the way I would naturally describe the item to someone in person. Even though, I still double check and  fine-tune it to match what I want. And it's taken a considerable amount of experimentation to get to this stage, as some of my early attempts show.

Basically it generally serves to save on quite a bit of typing. I just copy, paste, check, check, check, then copy and paste again.

It's not perfect though. Probably never will be.

Re: ai

Just seen a couple of AI howlers today.

One was a product with 'R.E.D' approval for the power supply (uses less power), AI banged on about the 'stunning red colour' of the white plastic loft amplifier.

The other is a bluray which 'includes an additional DIGITAL DOWNLOAD so you can watch in away from your player' or it would had the service not been closed down 5+ years ago and the voucher inside worthless.

As ever, the point is, use AI and eBay is making already broken promises on your behalf. Expect refund requests.

Was it 'sure to turn heads' as well?

Pretty much every item of clothing & shoes are 'sure to turn heads', according to AI.  There must be a lot of sore necks out there...

LOL you know, it might have still used that phrase about the red colour. 'Give your loft aerial a treat with this stunning, head turning amplification appliance that is sure to be high fidelity and sound amazing'.

Re: ai

eBay implemented AI with minimal thought, refinement, or full integration of user input, which undermines its true potential. Currently, eBay's AI is a rudimentary and underdeveloped primitive caveman version of what it could be.

Personally, I use AI to assist with all my listings, but I rely on an external platform where I designed customised templates tailored to my specific listing needs, with the aim to create listings that are not obviously written by AI. With a little prompting my AI describes images of artworks, researches and creates artists biographies, suggest a title, item specifics, keywords, condition, and crates hidden HTML text for mobile view, all in a single reply. I then copy and paste it in to my listing. I can work with the AI if I need to refine anything.

If you're considering using AI for creating listings, I recommend avoiding eBay's solution as it isn't up to the task at all yet. Instead, experiment with external AI tools to explore their full capabilities.

Re: ai

It is certainly true that the AI 3Bay chooses to implement currently has all the cognitive abilities of a slug, although that's being unfair to the slug.

'AI as in "Arresting Immediately". '

I believe AI is more properly known as  'LLM' ; stands for  'Large Language Model '

Or in this case as  "Largely Laundering Money"

Re: ai

I set up a new Google Performance Pro campaign today.  It 'helpfully' invoked AI to write the description for me.

Gosh it was awful, it was all 'Your friends will scream with envy when they see this product ... the company is a leader in it's field ... an unparalleled range of colours' type of guff.

Trouble is, it was so awful it scrambled my brain and made it difficult to write something sensible instead.

Then it wanted a video.  I don't have a video - so it told me that's OK, AI will create a video for you.

The campaign's going through Google's checking process.  Tomorrow, I will be able to see the true horror of the video that AI's created.

Re: ai

It suggests an American A.I. due to its over-excitement ("scream with envy..." - really?!). Its wording is bound to put off a Briton, for instance.

Beware of any British A.I. It's understatement and self-deprecation might be too convincing.

Re: ai

Thought I would share this:

Checking on listings for an old book title "Two Eggs on my Plate".  It is an autobiography of a Norwegian resistance leader during WW2.  He was trained in Canada and dropped into Norway by the RAF.  The title refers to the meal given to RAF and agents flying over enemy territory before they left on a mission  - they were always given two eggs which were strictly rationed at the time.  The book recounts the author's exploits in German-occupied Norway.

The seller has obviously used AI for the description which reads: "The book is filled with delightful illustrations and interesting facts about the life of a chicken. It is perfect for anyone who loves to collect rare books or anyone who has an interest in the life of chickens. Don't miss out on the opportunity to add this incredible book to your collection."  🤣🤣

AI = Absolute Idiocy
