Zero feedback buyer despite setting up to stop this?

Hi all, another sale another trip here for advice.

I probably already know the answer, but I'm looking for opinions.

Ok so, I'm pretty sure I set something up on my account to require buyers have at least 5 feedback or more or something like that. I remember doing it.

I've just sold an item and the buyer has zero feedback. It's quite rare records. Not overly valuable, but valuable enough. I'd have preferred if my preferences set worked.

What do I do here? Should I refund him or send the item, I was literally about to pack them but noticed zero fb..

What are peoples experiences with zero feedback users? Why would my preferences of needing feedback not have worked here?

Understand I was a zero feedback not so long ago, but I brought very low value items first to build my buyer fb.

Cheers again in advance.

Re: Zero feedback buyer despite setting up to stop this?

Don't talk wet, there was an option to stop bidders with less than 10 feedbacks to not  bid. A few years ago, I clearly remember it. eBay must have removed it as I mentioned before. As it would have effected genuine zero feedback ones.

There was increased zero feedback fraud  cases especially during lockdown.

Zero feedback fraud is more likely, than from buyers with higher feedback.

To suggest it isn't the case, is just plain idiotic.

There are a lot of unhelpful replies on here. This is another of the terrible changes ebay has made over the years. I have people setting up new accounts (not just old accounts with zero feedback) purely with the intention of scamming me and its driving me mad

How are they scamming you?

Why do you leave Positive Feedback for non payers?

Don’t all guests have zero feedback.

ebay let’s them all buy ? Not sure how that system works

or if there’s an option to not sell to guests

Re: Zero feedback buyer despite setting up to stop this?

also sell vinyl, and I have had some bad experiences with "new" accounts. Recently had a guy buy 2 singles which were mint as I got them new and never played them. He opened a not as described case and asked me for a refund, i refused and opted for a return and all i got was a package full of cardboard. Ebay did refund him themselves so I didnt lose out, but it rankled me that he got the records for free.

That experience made me very wary of new accounts and I cancelled an order from italy for a £75 single to a brand new account Within an hour the item sold again to a UK account that had been inactive for over a year and had low feedback, so I cancelled it again and got left negative feedback.

However, I recently sold a single to a new buyer with a feedback of 1 in the USA for £160. I considered cancelling but his solitary feedback seemed to be for another item by the same band so I took the risk and posted it. I received positive feedback from him the same day it arrived so fingers crossed all is well, although until the 30 day period has elapsed i'm still a bit twitchy

Re: Zero feedback buyer despite setting up to stop this?

Hi, new seller here. I had just made a sale to a zero feedback buyer, had a bad feeling about it but sent it anyway. Not massive amount of money but my item was reported arrived  damaged with a picture of damaged steel shaft! Any advice?

If you used SD then that should be covered by SD if damaged in transit. Maybe one of the mentors can let you know the steps you have to take

Re: Zero feedback buyer despite setting up to stop this?

My understanding is....yes both the seller and buyer are covered if an item gets damaged in transit under SD

Saying that the seller must have packed the item according to Ebays packaging guidelines.

The above appears to me to be a cop out term and condition 😞

and how do they prove that it was packed correctly without photos or videos?   Usual cop out for e bay as you say.

Re: Zero feedback buyer despite setting up to stop this?

Yes, I thought that too.  How can the seller prove that they packaged correctly?

We all know that even if you video the whole packaging procedure it won't be looked at or accepted as evidence in the case of a dispute.   You only have to read a few threads on the Member to Member board to read desperate sellers hoping their photos or videos will prove the item was perfect and well-packaged, to be told it won't.

Re: Zero feedback buyer despite setting up to stop this?

What is SD? I used Yodel as it’s the cheapest way to send. I just found the proof of delivery and it wasn’t damaged in transit. And it would take a lot of force to break a steel golf shaft! Is there any way EBay can help sellers?

Re: Zero feedback buyer despite setting up to stop this?

ita Ebays new Special delivery.    Most are already automatically enrolled into it and soon all private sellers will be.   Business sellers are not.

Re: Zero feedback buyer despite setting up to stop this?

Ok.....so you sent it as usual under the old postage system?  Not enrolled into simple delivery yet?

You have proof of delivery but that does not guarantee that the item was not broken/damaged once the buyer unwrapped it 😞     IF the buyer has opened a case and you paid for the postage yourself then i guess you will have to accept the not as described  case and refund upon return of the item to you as usual.    Then you will have to try and make a claim for compensation from your carrier.
