You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

The fact they take several days to ship items I have bought from them. Me, when I sell something I drop it off at the post office the same day a buyer pays if there is time or I pay to have it collected by the postie the next morning. Why do some sellers on eBay take 2 or 3 days?

Even more annoying is the seller is on holiday and hasn't told eBay.

Do sellers not realise they can go to the Royal Mail's website and pay for postage and even have the postie turn up with the shipping label or that they can take the parcel to the post office with a QR code and the post office can print out the shipping label for you?

Why take so long? Especially private sellers where you don't get your money until 2 days after delivery?

Whilst I understand your sentiment  How exactly does a buyer differentiate between an elderly person selling a few nik naks and a youthful dynamic 25 year old selling a few unwanted items ?

ebay Buyers  in the majority have no interest of who the seller is - only that generally they are buying on ebay, they complain to ebay, they choose from ebay delivery, they pay ebay, the seller for the vast majority is an irrelevance

Delivery time is important - sellers using ebay as a pay day loan by advertising a  fictitous item with a delivery estimate  taking the money then using the mbg to delay refunds are over thank goodness

They need to do the same with business drop shippers  who advertise non existant products and then delay refunds !

Private sellers getting paid and delaying dispatch by days or weeks - some are proudly claiming 10 day dispatch times - it will all stop thank goodness.

The better sellers behave the more buyers will buy private or business !

It is usually pretty obvious by the style of listing, item description & feedback comments etc. But whoever it is doing the amateur selling, as long as the item is as described & reasonably well packed, that's all I ask. If it takes a few days longer to arrive, for whatever reason, it doesn't matter to me.

Of course there are some 'dodgy' private sellers, which eBay should be better at weeding out, but my feeling is that most 'genuine' private sellers do their best, some in spite of very difficult circumstances.

Can't agree more - unfortunately bad selling practices have brought on the changes - it is not limited to private accounts - business sellers need  the same if not stronger attention

The point is that if the changes make buyers happierby reducing  poor selling - it will benefit everyone.

This post origin was a buyer disgruntled with non delivery and late dispatch. SD combats these problems  in theory.

Good private sellers will have limited changes to make  albeit unnecessarily  -  The poor sellers will be the most affected along with the businesses registered on a private account and these are the ones that the changes are aimed at .

The digs at business  or private seller  are petty - they both share the same space and often both business and private accounts are held by the same member !

Really? But that shop has a 10 day dispatch and if you did then it would make a fool out of all your posts.  Did they ban your other username?

"Reading the posts by some private sellers claiming they have no time in their busy lives to post an order makes me wonder how they make any time to - answer a phone, send a text, buy a carton of milk - post on this forum and God forbid if they run out of tobacco, vapes, alcohol, paracetamol, need a prescription or carry out any other essential or social activity

I bet they find an immediate gap in their busy lives to nip to the shop or the pub or the cafe when it suits them -

Perhaps those that work could leave a few minutes earlier day or night, use part of their lunchbreak or get home 3 minutes later - apparently not from what is written !"

I'm  genuinely taken aback that you don’t seem to have the slightest insight into how other people’s lives might be different from your own, with some people possibly having particularly difficult circumstances juggling lots of b.alls whilst trying to make ends meet by selling a few things on ebay.

Perhaps the people who want everything next day delivery should get themselves organised to buy in advance of when they need it, instead of expecting other people to drop everything in order to run around after them because they’ve left it to the last minute to order.

I’d like to think that this world - even the world of ebay - isn’t so bad that we can’t have a bit of empathy with other people whose circumstances may make it difficult or stressful to fit everything in.

Perhaps I’m just anti the way that some people believe themselves entitled to think that the rest of the world should pander to them.

It's unlikely that I will be selling anything other than collection only items in the future, but I've added OP to my block list just in case.

As a business account holder you are allowed up to 40 days dispatch time

This thread is about a buyer receiving delayed dispatch or non dispatch  questioning especially private sellers  delaying dispatch which delays payment !

The responses given are related to SD for private accounts which demands a three day dispatch time and payment once delivered - so as the original post states it is in the private sellers interest to post promptly.

10 day dispatch is a business sellers choice and attracts the negative and neutral comments in feedback and no doubt vastly reduces the number of  sales  which is an odd policy for a business selling fast moving goods to follow, but as long as that business believes in their policy then they can hardly complain at the lack of success can they ?

You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

I am taken aback that a seller can offer an item for sale with an expected delivery date - expect to be paid by a stranger up front and then claim that the buyer should wait until the seller  decides when it is convenient for them to dispatch the item paid for  !

The problems solved by SD are

Sellers making false sales - pocketing the money with no intention to dispatch anything - using the mbg to delay a refund  - ie using the ebay sale as a free pay day loan - some of these sellers try anything to delay the buyer claiming time after time after time

Sellers delaying dispatch - got the money, make excuses and eventually get round to posting when it is convenient

Sellers falsely marking as dispatched - got the money mark as dispatched - give excuses make up stories send it in a couple of weeks time when they feel like it

Sellers posting items with the wrong postage letting the buyer pay the excess and telling them it is their or Rm's fault and not refunding them

Sellers posting to a false address and claiming the buyer has received it because tracking says delivered

All of which have been frequently reported on this forum !

All of the points are extremely valid.

However, they are most certainly not exclusive to Private Sellers.

So why the fixation only on Private Sellers?

I know you keep saying that it should apply to all sellers - but it doesn’t - that's the reality of the here-and-now.

It certainly should to all but eBay have decided otherwise and created a split - and animosity.

I know OP refers to all sellers initially but then singles out Private Sellers.

So when are Business Sellers going to clean up their act?

Or will eBay have to do it for them as well?

I was responding to the OP's area of concern in that SD would be a solution to some of the problems experianced - of course those against SD jumped in with both feet which was expected.

With regards to business sellers not acting correctly - I wish ebay would intervene - I could list many areas of concern, condemnation and outright dishonesty which should be stamped out in no uncertain terms .

Any poor selling practices affects all sellers private or business -  even in this thread comments regarding businesses refusing to communicate with buyers is evident or failing to dispatch or deliver on time  - they hide behind ebay policies and systems -

Businesses need to be looked at in a more robust way - good service - honest products and good communication  are the starting point for ebay.

No - leave home a few minutes early to drop off the package or arrive home a few minutes late  having dropped off the package

This was the norm at one time but apparently not possible in this day and age

"Good private sellers will have limited to make albeit un-necessarily"

Too true,  all they need to do is stop selling on ebay !

Any self-respecting private seller shouldn't consider putting up with the sort of nonsense that ebay throws at them  and then rigs the search against them.

You know what I find annoying about some sellers?

It is difficult to see what your experiences of Ebay are - you have had your account for a long time but have nothing for sale and private, limited feedback.

However, with 21 years of selling on the site and over 6000 sales, I can genuinely say that i have never done any of the above things.

i do have a 5 day dispatch time, and limited working days because Ebay is not my job!

As a mentor, I respond to members' questions in the forum and the issues you mention make up a minute proportion of the issues buyers complain about.

If you think the point of SD is to solve these issues, I believe you are mistaken.

Sellers making false sales - pocketing the money with no intention to dispatch anything - using the mbg to delay a refund  - ie using the ebay sale as a free pay day loan - some of these sellers try anything to delay the buyer claiming time after time after time

I have seen complaints about this in the forum - main culprits are business sellers.

Sellers delaying dispatch - got the money, make excuses and eventually get round to posting when it is convenient

Do you have any actual evidence of this? The buyer always gets an estimated delivery date.  Most complaints about 'late' deliveries are based on either Ebay's unrealistic delivery dates or the fact that the buyer didn't notice the EDD on the listing and didn't read the email they got confirming the purchase which gives the range of EDDs. Payment holds may encourage sellers to post more quickly, SD is trying to force them to.

Sellers falsely marking as dispatched - got the money mark as dispatched - give excuses make up stories send it in a couple of weeks time when they feel like it

Do you have any evidence of this?  Sellers who buy postage through Ebay do complain that as soon as they buy the label, it shows the item as diapatched.  Even if you are buying and printing labels late on a Saturday night with no opportunity to post until Monday.  That is a flaw of Ebay, not a dishonest seller.

Sellers posting items with the wrong postage letting the buyer pay the excess and telling them it is their or Rm's fault and not refunding them

This can be a genuine mistake on the seller's part.

Sellers posting to a false address and claiming the buyer has received it because tracking says delivered

I would guess that a lot of the time, when this happens, buyers have provided the wrong address or not updated their address.

Most of my items (jewellery under 100g and under £10) will not have to be sent using SD so I can stick to my lazy 'can't be bothered' 5 day dispatch time.

I suggest you go back and read the posts submitted by disgruntled buyers who have felt so aggrieved that they have reached out for help from members - some of which you have personally commented on - they do say some people suffer from selective memory when it suits them !

But somehow you just never get around to it where business sellers are concerned, do you?

You write pages of condemnation of private sellers, but until you need to dig yourself out of the latest hole you've dug by dragging businesses pretending to be private sellers into your argument as a get-out for your total lack of any real evidence against them.

What you should do is start throwing the same accusations about on the BSB and lecturing them on their poor selling practices.  They are the majority on here now with a far greater percentage of the UK's total transactions and have a far greater influence on the public perception of ebay than the few amateur part-timers who ever manage to sell anything will ever have.

Once again private sellers are being thrown under a bus by ebay because of the actions of bad business sellers.

What I find amazing by your personal slur is the absolute nonsense you belch into words - This is not a thread about business sellers but a post about late dispatch and non delivery from sellers particularly private sellers.

SD will obviously and without any reasonable dispute vastly reduce late dispatches and non deliveries for the reasons stated,

You are running a personal crusade against everything ebay  and against any member who agrees with or points out the benifits of ebay's systems

That is your perogative but try to keep your comments constructive, factual and leave the childish personal slurs out of it !
