Yet Another Chargeback Scam

Yet another payment dispute/chargeback scam.

2nd in past year, and it takes 10 weeks for theyre payment institution.

Sold item.Buyer sets up eBay account the same day he buys item.

Item sent out next day Special Delivery to his address on ebay checkout.

Signed for by buyer with "His" signature and starts emailing me the packet was empty.

Provided proof of delivery and proof of posting including the weight of package.

Half a kilo for an empty jiffy back,er ok.

10 days later he started the old usual "Transaction not recognised" funds on hold etc etc etc.

It was quite a lot of money. Now can't sell anything since 18th November last year as ive got a negative 600 ebay balance.

Yet Another Chargeback Scam

If it is transaction not recognised you can defend the claim by giving them the tracking number

eBay will defend your chargeback if you can prove delivery to cardholder address

Yet Another Chargeback Scam

Did he do the chargeback for 'goods nor recieved' or 'not as described'?

If it's goods not recived you should be OK as you have proof of delivery.

(Not as described is a pain; you've lost....)

I'm not sure how 'Transaction not recognised' works, but if you can prove it was delivered to his address and signed for by him he must 'recognise' it!

Yet Another Chargeback Scam

I'm so sorry to read this has happened to you.

I'm sure you must be familar with this as you mention a previous chargeback, but for easy reference:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/selling-policies/payment-dispute-seller-protections?id=5293&st=...

Also, have you contacted Royal Mail at all about this as it used to be that they took any form of fraud very seriously, & being SD I can't image they would deliver a tampered /empty package?

Could be their address is already 'marked' & if not, probably should be.

I hope you get somewhere with this, from what I read it sounds like you should be protected, but you can never count on it, & sadly you know your money will now be on hold for the forseeable.

Best of luck

Thats the thing.

The buyers address may be Uk,but cardholders address/payment institution might be 100 High Street New Delhi India.

The buyer Does recognise the transaction as they originally claimed the package was empty.I have all his emails to back this up too.

They waited another 10 days then put in TRANSACTION NOT RECOGNISED on item page, hence the dispute.

Transaction not recognised is the cardholder claiming they did not make the purchase

it is the easiest chargeback to defend and WIN

All that is needed is proof of delivery to the address given at checkout.

If you provide this, then eBay will defend the chargeback for you

For the other types of chargeback you would always lose, so make sure eBay have the tracking proving delivery

AFAIK it doesn't have to be the cardholder address, just the address given at eBay checkout for eBay to defend the case on your behalf

Yet Another Chargeback Scam

When a buyer opens a payment dispute because they didn't receive the item or they don't recognize the transaction

When a buyer opens a payment dispute because they didn't receive the item or they don't recognize the transaction, sellers will be asked to provide:

  • Evidence of successful delivery to the address provided by the buyer at checkout, or
  • Proof that the buyer collected the item

If eBay determines that the item was successfully delivered or collected:

  • We will not seek reimbursement from the seller for the disputed amount, even if the payment institution decides that the buyer is owed a refund; and
  • We will waive or refund the seller's dispute fee

Evidence of successful delivery
Tracking information from a shipping carrier that shows all of the following:

  • A delivery status of "delivered" (or equivalent in the country to which the item was delivered);
  • The date of delivery;
  • The recipient's address that matches the one found on the Order details page, including the city/county or postal code (or international equivalent); and
  • For orders with a total cost of £450 or more, proof that signature confirmation was purchased (uploaded as an image when challenging the dispute). Learn more about our signature confirmation requirements

Yet Another Chargeback Scam

That confirms it doesn't need to be the cardholders registered address

Just the address they gave at checkout

HOWEVER....

Was the item over £450??

If so, did you obtain a signature on delivery?

I have all proof of delivery, proof of him knowing the transaction, proof of posting, proof of him signing for  package too.

I have sent all this off to eBay as well.

But "STILL" eBay have to wait and wait and wait for this buyers payment institution.

Anything upto 3 months apparently.

Yes he signed for it.Its on Royal Mails tracking app.Even a photo and GPS coordinates.

Ebay WILL NOT do anything until 3 months have passed waiting for this payment institution to get back.

They even have evidence that the buyer did know about the transaction.

So your funds are safe then

You have proof to defend the case

It in unlikely to take 3 months, you will just have to be patient

It could be worse, you could be refunding him when you know he has the item!!

Just a thought... in case you've not done so already, it would be a good idea to take screenshots of all communication, delivery scans, GPS map locations, order details etc. just in case they dissapear & you need them at a later date.
