What is BUYER PROTECTION FEE really for ?

With Buyer Protection, you'll benefit from:

  • New! Private sellers paid after delivery: When you purchase from a private seller, payment will be sent after the order has been successfully delivered.
  • New! 24/7 customer support: Connect anytime with a person by phone, or send a chat to get quick answers.
  • Secure transactions: All payments are encrypted end-to-end and handled by our trusted payments partners. You'll also continue to benefit from free leading services like eBay Money Back Guarantee, as well as Authenticity Guarantee (for eligible items and categories).

Most purchases are covered by eBay Money Back Guarantee, our free protection programme that offers refunds if the item didn't arri...
Our new Buyer Protection programme gives you even more reassurance with your purchase, knowing private sellers are paid after delivery, and you can talk to a real person 24/7 if you have any issues or questions.

Buyer Protection is a new programme that applies to all purchases on eBay.co.uk, and includes 24/7 customer support. Additionally, when you buy from a UK-based private seller, seller funds are sent after an item is considered delivered, and a mandatory Buyer Protection fee is included in the item price.
eBay Money Back Guarantee is an additional layer of protection on your purchase. If an item doesn't ...

So this is basically telling buyers that eBay are not trusting of their private sellers to post items and them being delivered by the postal service... Buyers can now speak to a human being with any concerns , or maybe just have a chat about the weather? or would it be I don't want this now and funds held longer?  AND  transactions are secure as encrypted ( were they not anyhow, if not this is very concerning)  AND that  BPF actually does not cover the item purchased as it is the MBG.

Did eBay ask the buyers if they wanted this?

Do eBay really think that sales will increase?

    Are eBay another Poshmark?

Are eBay misleading its " customers" with what the BPF really is?

Have eBay discriminated against private sellers?

Are buyers encouraged by eBays New  FEE to part with their hard earned money even more?

Are buyers  clear of what it actually covers and  happy with the " benefits" it provides?

Are private sellers disappointed at them being singled out and penalised by having funds held for  something which really does not exist...?

Re: What is BUYER PROTECTION FEE really for ?

As a private seller I often find items are only shown as dispatched not delivered so does this now mean I am going to have to chase eBay for payment when I know from feedback or tracking a customer has received an item.

Re: What is BUYER PROTECTION FEE really for ?

If the item is under £10. and untracked, ebay will accept buyer pos.  feedback as proof of delivery and release the payment after 2 days.

No feedback = wait 14 days.

If the item is over £10 and there's no tracking/delivery notification, you have to wait 14 days for payment regardless of feedback left or otherwise...

(and if the buyer raises an INR or SNAD within that 14 days you'll have to wait until it's sorted out.)

Chasing ebay CS won't make any difference.

Thems the new rules ☹️

Re: What is BUYER PROTECTION FEE really for ?

The cynic in me wonders if 2 corporate entities such as eBay and Royal Mail would actually come to a fiscal agreement in their benefit.

Royal Mail already had the umbrella programme for all their normal services, allowing 10 working days after something enters their network for delivery. Something like that might almost be beneficial for eBay as they obviously want to hold our money for us.

Don't knock it. Once all the other high street banks have boarded up and left town it's entirely possible there will be new branches of EBAY BANK moving in. Look out for the corporate colours. 😁

Re: What is BUYER PROTECTION FEE really for ?

The gaslighting about sellers being paid after delivery is really quite incredulous. As if eBay haven't historicly taken funds from your linked payment source when things go awry anyway and heavily side with buyers in the process. Am I really supposed to believe there's that much fraud on eBay that these sort of draconion measures need to be enacted?

Re: What is BUYER PROTECTION FEE really for ?

Hi, I’m buying a second hand bike that must be collected in person and I will pay cash for the item when I go and collect it, if it does not exist, is not as described or a fake then I won’t buy it so what do I have to pay for this “protection” that will be worthless to me, money for nothing I think!

Cash on Collection is no longer allowed on ebay.

In order to get an address from the seller - you have to pay via ebay checkout.

Re: What is BUYER PROTECTION FEE really for ?

I think people need to wake up.

Big Corps have lobbied (A group of persons engaged in trying to influence legislators or other public officials in favor of a specific cause) IE "We do not want second hand sales to be allowed anymore. It stops people buying our over priced goods. We are greedy and we want more money so we want you to make it difficult for buyers to buy second hand."

.GOV

"We can not have people selling second hand goods because it is at the moment too easy for those selling to make a few £s without paying tax. We want more money, We need to tax everyone for everything. Every penny will be accounted for, All tax must be paid...And then we can give ourselves another pay increase, and do less work, and recieve gifts from lobbyers in the meantime."

All of them (Corperations/,GOV) are working together to make things harder for the little people and easier for those at the top to make money.

It keeps us in our place as Surfs.

Re: What is BUYER PROTECTION FEE really for ?

How's that, exactly? Sellers don't pay fees anymore. They've just moved the fee from the seller to the buyer.
