I'm noticing that orders with Simple Delivery are now also showing a VAT deduction. Is this new?
For example

Tracked 24/48 services from Royal Mail include VAT (except to channel Islands) when you ordinarily buy a label. Ebay choose to break the information down this way for you.
If you send an item non simple delivery then ebay don't the carrier all they include is the postage price you included on your listing for the buyer.
Insurance should be as standard on TR24/48 of £150. This is Royal Mails standard offering.
Pricing with Simple Delivery probably/could show new pricing from Royal Mail which kick in tomorrow (7th)

Yep i have had this too, i have only been selling paperback books and some have shown a VAT figure in the order details and some haven't ??? i was going to question this myself but after the last few weeks i really can't be bothered with Ebay no more....i ve got tons of stuff to get rid of and i wasn't aware of the BPF or SD until i listed 50 books etc at very competitive prices, i have since had to reduced these 2 times just to sell a few of them.......the weather is great so im not listing anymore and ebay can do as they wish and ill check back at the end of summer to see if they have either gone out of business or seen the error of their ways.

It's showing the VAT part of the postage paid by the buyer
Standard Tracked Delivery - Postage: £4.27
Postage £3.56
VAT £0.71
Total £4.27

It's the VAT on the postage.

OK. So instead of £3.25 Royal Mail Tracked 48 the buyer is paying £4.27? That's quite a mark-up, presumably to cover the insurance in case Royal Mail decide to mistreat or lose it? What's the Buyer Protection fee for?

Also why doesn't it show up on orders not sent simple delivery?

I was charged £1.00 VAT on an order from a private seller last week and wondered about this charge as never seen it on an order from a business seller the week before ?

You can over ride "Simple Delivery" and choose custom postage with Royal Mail or alternative and select tracked method of postage. You specify the postage cost that should allow for any postage material cost and he cost of actual postage will be what ever the carrier charges, e.g. Royal Mail small parcel 48 hour tracked up to 2KG £3.45 from 1st April 2025. Other if you use Simple Delivery the buyer pays way over this just for the postage (no packing cost included) + VAT at 20%, you have to swallow the packing material cost or allow for this in your selling price which with the inclusion of "Buyer Protection" makes you item overpriced. Both buyers and sellers will leave eBay to find other ways to buy and sell. Who will be the ultimate loser here? I am sure eBay will amend their policies when their overall revenue drops.
