Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

I’m a member for 14 years - I have today complained fiercely to EBay with regards to 4% + 75p charge on each item purchased as we all know this is a Back Door way of recovering the Seller Fees which were scrapped recently - Buyers already have adequate protection - as to payment 2 days after delivery - we’re at the mercy of Royal Mail to scan all  items when collected (not guaranteed) 😡

 Fellow  members I urge you to let your disproval known - SHAME ON YOU Ebay😡😡

This is a typical example of one of those business sellers trying to scare off all the private sellers by falsely telling them to upgrade to business accounts, bossing them about and not liking them selling anything cheaper than them.

Why don't you just get a real shop instead of masquerading as one by buying the title of business seller?

Why don't they just get some better stock that's different to everyone else so you don't constantly complain that you're being undercut? Get a webstore instead of leeching off what was a private sellers marketplace.

The dearth of buyers over the last few years has led to members being advised (by other members)  not to accept Ebay's suggested 99p start.

This is because the days of bidding wars have gone for most items.

Nowadays you should start an auction at the lowest you would accept for an item.

I totally agree with you. I cannot believe what I have read with regard to these new policies!

Utter disgrace!!! Make buyers pay fees on top of the purchase price and make sellers wait for payment until buyer receives item! It's never going to work.  I don't think I will be buying or selling anymore on ebay (for what little I was buying and selling).  Doesn't look too promising for my sister who's got stacks of clothes to sell. Never mind there are other selling platforms that are more competitive.

Ebay has dug themselves a huge grave and dare I say it will be the final nail in the coffin!!!

I'm in the same boat. From what I understand, eBay will assume that delivery has taken place 14 days after mailing. That's if there's still any buyers out there purchasing low-value items that eBay are about to double the price of.

Feedback will pay no part in receiving a payout any sooner.  Feedback can be left in error,  so it's not reliable.

  It's only tracking when this  system comes in,  in February showing delivery,  that will release payouts 2 days after delivery shown.

No tracking showing delivery = a 14 day wait for payouts.

If the move to "Simple Delivery" is enforced this year, that finishes me with eBay. I have a large stock of Royal Mail stamps that I won't be able to use. I am absolutely sick of eBay messing about: you never know what they're going to do next.

This is diabolical,  I always send using RM tracked due to occasionally selling expensive items, BUT this is entirely at the mercy of the muppet postman scanning the item on delivery!!! Which in my experience DOES NOT always happen. This is a joke and entirely unethical.

I haven't sold anything since the beginning of December ( or purchased and will never again buy anything on here - sorry to my fave sellers , both private and business )  and just wondering whether to remove my listings completely and watch this play out; as I will not be using Simply shipping/delivery or whatever they want to call it  for the buyer to choose a service that I cannot fulfil, or for my  funds on my items sold ( chance would be a fine thing 😉 )  being held for an indefinite time. No, not happening. 

Stressful, confusing, and eBay are taking an absolute liberty! 

Thinking over all the new introductions and watching the downward landslide of eBay over the past couple of years... I actually have the belief that  is all about  " managing" YOU/US!

From my understanding of the new 'buyers fees', you are looking at this from the wrong angle:-

The buyer will only pay the listed price of £650 you are asking for the Australian Sovereign. The 4% plus 75p buyers protection fee is going to be deducted from your  payment. It is a sellers fee by the back door.

The wording of the eBay announcement is misleading, deceptive double speak.

And as for the new payment on hold until delivery confirmed system..............................................

No, the buyer protection fees will be added onto the seller's listed price:

The Buyer Protection fee will be calculated as:

• A flat fee of £0.75 per item, and
• 4% of the item price up to £300, and
• 2% of any portion of the item price from £300 to £4,000

Fee calculation examples:

Item price set by the seller.  £20

Buyer Protection fee variable (4% of £20).  £0.80

Buyer Protection flat fee.  £0.75

Price that buyer sees for the listing

£21.55 + postage

Item price set by the seller.  £500

Buyer Protection fee variable (4% of £300, + 2% of £200). £16.00

Buyer Protection flat fee.  £0.75

Price that buyer sees for the listing

£516.75 + postage
