Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

I’m a member for 14 years - I have today complained fiercely to EBay with regards to 4% + 75p charge on each item purchased as we all know this is a Back Door way of recovering the Seller Fees which were scrapped recently - Buyers already have adequate protection - as to payment 2 days after delivery - we’re at the mercy of Royal Mail to scan all  items when collected (not guaranteed) 😡

 Fellow  members I urge you to let your disproval known - SHAME ON YOU Ebay😡😡

Get your own slot!  Years ago I bought a nicely produced piece of perspex with cutouts for letter and large letter thickness.  Really handy, I've used it a lot.

I bought it on ebay, which in those days was a no-brainer of a choice.  These days?  "Other sites are available, terms and conditions may apply, yada yada blah blah"!

Don't get one made out of cardboard, unless you only sell half a dozen items a year.

I also made up a hacked cardboard box with two sides and markings, so I can quickly see if something is within the 45x35x16 limits of an RM small parcel, though these days I can mostly judge that by eye.

I love getting ridiculous offers on ebay.  Saves so much hassle, revealing themselves.  Straight into the blocked bidders list, job done!

Isn't Vinted just for clothes?  I do have a whole wardrobe of fashionable sports jackets with leather patches, but I've too much else to declutter first.  At least within a wardrobe they're out of sight, out of mind.

I am sending all my items tracked 48 from now on and I let buyers know in the description . Not that everyone reads the descriptions but I can hope . I can't see why the royal mail give us tracking numbers on parcels if the post man then doesn't scan it ,but the tracked 24 /48 has to be scanned but it costs us 20p more for this . Royal mail are rogues too .

I don't think so.  The buyer will always see the final price to them, it's just that at checkout they will see the breakdown.

I’ve done exactly that politely obviously 

had a reply back to my phone call saying my complaint had been looked into and and my case was dismissed and case closed in the reply they stated if I didn’t like it I could contact the  financial ombudsmen  and the even gave the telephone number to do so ‼️

move taken off all my cheap listings as it’s not worth the bother ( it’s hard work at the best of times ) and for £2.50 or less I don’t think so and to have to wait for 14 days or more why bother 

eBay should go after and impose cost penalties to those that have horrendous feedback , standards would then improve ( or eBay would make a lot of money if it didn’t improve (

I recently had an offer from a seller ( when I looked at feedback both neutral and negative it was horrendousu paid more and went elsewhere 

in the meantime I’ve removed all my cheap listings that would have been sent by untracked, am I going to wait 14 days or more for a few quid the answer is NO

I’ve spoken to a representative who agrees with us all 

so the more that complain the better 

I too have used eBay to sell inherited stuff and stuff I no longer need or can use due to heath issues 

so although I’ve sold a lot I’m not a business seller 

I’ve now removed all my cheap listings it’s just not worth the bother 

man I going to wait 14 days or more for .99p or A few quid the answer is NO

Ignore the bot and speak to a representative and politely let them know 

listings will drop sharply for sure

very true, my coaster and badge collection last year i actually started to list a few but soon removed them. i put £3.99 as the price and then £1.80 2nd class delivery but never got interest. i knew it was the main price so thats why i was going to list them all at about £3 but theres no point now

why would private seller register as a business? also pay minimum £26 a month for it as well as fees and charges lol

I have read the info on Simple Delivery where it states that you can opt in or out but where does it say it will become compulsory in March 2025?

I personally buy my postage online from Royal Mail and like to be in control when I visit the post office they double check my size and weight ( occasionally I’ve got it wrong but a can correct it before it’s an issue the other end ) I’ve now taken off all my really cheap listings it’s just not worth the bother I’ve also complained to eBay who say case closed and if I don’t like it I can take it to with the financial ombudsman, even gave me the telephone number to do so

I'm a long term member too + 10 years , I've sent them a vitriolic email complaining .

This is just replacing the old charges by default . It's not a buyer cost , it will become a seller cost , buyers won't suddenly pay 10 / 15 % more , why would they , sellers will have to lower prices so they will pay the cost in reality ( not business ones of course ! ).  And my pricing structure ? £20.67 , £ 15.43  no more £20 and £15 items when they add 4% + 75p. !!!

Also , as a buyer , what am I actually getting ?  They say my seller wont get paid till delivery , I don't care !

There's no more protection in that than now . And comparing with PPI is right , I can't choose not to have the "

insurance " , and it's not identified in the price !! Very risky for E bay I think.

So here's my suggestion :

All private sellers on the 4th February .........end every single  item you have on EBay , every one ! If we all do this they  will lose millions of for sale items in one day and that may focus their attention.

This is a really terrible idea and poorly thought out and poorly implemented. If you need income just go back to a charge system as before , not this system is not the answer and I will not continued with EBay in this format .

A 'private' seller wouldn't, but a self described business masquerading as a private seller should.

they actually state it when they say it will be REQUIRED by all private sellers in Q1 2025. even the CEO stated in march its mandatory. march is Q1 as is Feb

they are tricking people because while in feb we can opt out...in march q1 it will be required which means no opting out

when march comes that what you read will be removed.they can not instantly make it mandatory thats why 1 month after it first starts it will then be mandatory.

why do you think all current live listings will automatically be changed to simple delivery by ebay once feb 6th comes? if it was never to be mandatory they would not force it on all current listings already on ebay

Vinted focussed on clothes for a long time while allowing random other stuff in vague categories like 'Entertainment' or 'Home'. However they one-upped Ebay in November by introducing a whole category hierarchy like Ebay's with specific sub-categories for all kinds of items, and a headline 'Electronics' tab on the homepage.

It's clear that Vinted and Ebay have been in close battle for months, and Vinted saw they could outdo Ebay by becoming a one-stop shop for all things used and second hand, while having the big advantage of a much more streamlined, less cluttered interface, algorithm and fee structure. Ebay are now scrambling to claw back any custom they can, but it's unlikely to work because all their tinkering over the years has made the site and app horribly clumsy to use and there are far too many junk listings to wade through.

Do stop calling yourself a member.  I know it's hard to break the habit, 20 years ago I thought of myself as an ebay member.  Those days are long gone.  You're a client, in a very tilted business relationship.  No club that treated its members as ebay have for years would survive the AGM!
