This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/paying-items/buyer-protection?id=5594

75p plus 4% buyers fee, so something which was priced at £5 will be £5.95 in February.

Can't quite see that myself, but maybe you're right.  For the avoidance of doubt, I'm saying that I believe every item that one visits, the page where one can see all the photos and the full description (which surely are the least that a prospective buyer should view) includes the Business/Private indication that some thought could only be seen by visiting the seller's profile page.

I've shown an example, I guess it's up to @a45heaven to show a screenshot where it's missing.  That might clear up any misunderstanding.

Or perhaps it depends on the device.  I'm viewing on a desktop pc or a laptop.  I could go and look at listings on the ebay app, but that way madness lies.  The app has its uses, but browsing on it for things to buy certainly isn't on my radar.

You were both describing searching, scrolling down a list of items and clicking on one, with one calling it an item listing and the other a seller's homepage. Either way they sounded like the same thing.

Yes, Private/Business will appear there but doesn't on the search page. All we have as a clue is those goofy Ebay-generated prices.

Really?  A bit strange to call an item listing the seller's homepage.

Goofy prices?  I've done this forever.  I start off with the usual xx.99 price, then if it's around still after a month or two I might change it to yy.47 or zz.28 or whatever.  Why do I do that?  Are you my psychiatrist?  There are deeper questions than that.

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

I just went to revise a CD listing and on the "Revise your listing" page, it now states how much UK buyers will additionally pay as a Buyer Protection Fee, although this hasn't been factored into the amount shown on the actual listing. Has there been any official announcement of the rollout kicking in for other categories? A heads up would have been appreciated seeing as it's clearly going ahead for the Music category...

Im sorry 'home page' was the wrong title for the page . I dont know how to make screen shots either without assistance.

if you do a search for say, 'paint' you get a host  of items  found.

scrolling down that lot , you have no idea if they are private or business, until you click on an item and beside the sellers name, greyed out is B or P.

That was my point in that both types of sellers will be hit with buyer claims in the future.

Hope this clarifies a tad.

How is selling video game  "Memorabilia" (a poster) classed as electronics?

My listing is getting the buyer protection charge treatment.

I could list is as "art" but it would not reach the target audience.

Bloody stupid

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

All of my listings have had it applied regardless of if they are electronics or not. Maybe I misunderstood but I was under the impression it was electronics only.

its going to be interesting on eBay over the next few weeks, I think private sellers are going to notice a very decline in selling items and as a buyer I’ll be wanting to avoid lining eBay’s pockets with the “buyer protection fee”

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

Yep, it's crept into Music. I searched for Patti & Michael 'On my own' on vinyl sorted by price and the 'cheapest' item costs £3.05 while the second one is £2.38.

Thereafter the order looks completely random.

How will a buyer make sense of that? It's a complete shambles!

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

My listings are now showing to potential buyers, with the BPF added in to the price they see.

I had come to terms with the fact that it was happening, and calculated my last hundred or so listings, so that the prices would appear in round pounds to buyers. Guess what - eBay is still calculating the fee wrongly, adding 72p instead of 75p, so after all my work, my listings all show up as £xx.97

Absolutely pathetic.

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

The new fees have crept into Comics and Magazines too.

As for those goofy numbers, the easiest way to check how your prices will appear for buyers is to go to the advanced search and search for items for sale from [your username]. Be prepared for a shock.

The 72p thing is supposedly in Ebay's pipeline to be 'fixed' but equally may not be.

Another way to keep all private sellers on their toes?

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

It's not paid by the buyer though they still pay list price, it's taken off the sellers total, which means it's totally false that the buyer pays unless you add the charges to what you would originally list it as.

Ie sell something for £8.99 plus £3.89 shipping total should be £13.96 the seller gets, it's not tho as they take off £1.08 for buyer protection.  That is not the buyer paying they pay exactly what they would under the previous system the seller gets less.

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

'it's not paid by the buyer though...'

----------------------------------------------

Yes it is.

If you list something for a tenner, and it sells, you'll get a tenner.

The buyer pays the tenner ,*plus* an extra 75p (well what should be 75p.. but that's weirdly being 72p sometimes!) and 4% of the tenner.... 40p

So the buyer pays a total of £11.15.

I'd like to thank eBay for their advance notice & complete transparency regarding the further rollout of the Hidden Seller Fee.

Re: This is going to mean the end for many small private sellers. "Buyer Protection Fee"

the app doesn't offer up information about business or private like on a laptop browsers, I rarely use the app for searching as the description is something you have to click on; once I'd seen that I begun to realise how buyers hadn't read the whole description...
