The new rules

Please can someone clarify the new rules for private sellers, I am so confused.

1. I always use Royal Mail I buy a 2nd class large letter stamp costing £1.55 or 1st class £2.60  but mainly 2nd class. Under the new system will I or won't I be able to use Royal Mail (I can't work this out) or will I have to use a courier service and track the item. If this is the case then the postage cost will be about double and not worth it to me and especially the customer for such a cheap item.

2.  If I sell an item for £4.95 with postage of £1.55, total cost £6.50, will ebay add on 4% to £6.50 or 4% to £4.95?

3.  Is it after they have added on 4% that they add on 75p?

4. I'm not actually that bothered that they will keep my money for 2 weeks if they let me use Royal Mail untracked but I can't work out if eventually I will have to use a tracked way of posting an item to the buyer or if I can continue to use Royal Mail not tracked and just wait 14 days. Please can someone let me know if they will eventually stop us from using Royal Mail, thanks.

The truth is I don't think anyone is actually certain yet. eBay have said how they will be calculating the amounts but going by feedback they are doing it differently to the way they said.

Royal Mail are currently one of the 2 selected Simple Delivery providers but if your items are worth less than £10 you may not need to use them.

With items below £10 they said payout would be after feedback was received. Not sure what happens if you don't get any. Hopefully they let you have the money after 14 days

Basically it's a mess.

Re: The new rules

It seems that Ebay's greed at trying to get 3 new income streams through the announced changes has failed at the first hurdle, with the mess up over implementing the BPF.

Ebay do the 4% then add the 75p.

The fee is not added to the postage.

No-one knows how the new Simple Delivery will work.

Re: The new rules

No and going by their recent update I'm interested to see if there are going to be any users left to use it.

It's all been very Python so far.

Have another cracker ...

Re: The new rules

Some have postulated the 10th February as there was an official Ebay announcement that related to stupid delivery but was referring to price changes.

You will still be able to use Royal Mail 2nd Class at present.  If you obtain a proof of posting and upload the reference number then payment will be released 2 days after confirmed delivery.  If there is no delivery confirmation or if the item is sent untracked then payment will be released 14 days after the date of order or 1 day after positive feedback is received for items under £10.

The 4% Buyer Protection Fee is only added to the item price not the postage.

Yes.

At some point eBay are proposing to make Simple Delivery mandatory for all eligible items sold by private sellers but an exact date has not been given yet.  Simple Delivery at present utilises Evri and Royal Mail and requires all items to be sent by a tracked method but it is not currently known whether sellers will be able to opt out of a particular carrier or exactly what items will be considered eligible for the service.
