The new fee ' Regulatory operating fee'

So.... some pay an insertion fee, some don't depending on circumstances. (shop or no shop)

Then the Final Value Fee varies depending on what category the item is sold in.

Then there is a fee for handling the transaction which can be 25p or 10p.

Now we have this extra Regulatory Operating Fee which is charged on the whole lot PLUS VAT but that  already includes VAT...so is it right to charge VAT on VAT - probably but seems wrong to me.

All in all a little bit more nibbled away so profit margin is less. Customers are hard enough to get in the first place without me having to put prices up to keep my margins. If eBay doesn't look after sellers they may find them dwindling - other auction sites are available! It's late and I felt I should have a moan before I made my cocoa. x

I also note there will be an increase in fees shortly and also a drop off from 1000 items to 300 per month for 'free'... Only just getting started here on this new account but feel like it's going to be a non starter now. So see ya later eBay, Discogs it is and finish our own website and push that through social media instead.
Margins killed once again by OTT greed.

As a you also have a record shop trading in Hastings your ebay account needs to be a business one to comply with online consumer laws.  You are also not entitled to free lisings per se, or private seller based fees.

Re: The new fee ' Regulatory operating fee'

Perhaps I am misunderstanding or my calculations have gone awry but 12.8% in fees does not seem OTT.

I am fairly certain that one would pay the same amount at a saleroom or auction house, and often more.

Re: The new fee ' Regulatory operating fee'

See this. Items bought for €50 Net and sold to the USA for €140 Net + Shipping. Expected profit was around €60-€70 (after the selling fees) But eBay took €89.16 in their total fees... so profit is €0.84 !

I'm not making any money on shipping. Any comments on this?

Re: The new fee ' Regulatory operating fee'

The only people seeing ever increasing fees on this platform are the correctly registered business sellers.

My comment:

You were clearly not aware of the fee pricing structure so you did not build the fees into your prices, either for the item or the shipping.  The very high shipping and the fact that fees are calculated based on the total the buyer pays (with additional international fees) is what has hit your profit.

Re: The new fee ' Regulatory operating fee'

How was the buyer able to select DHL Päckchen International as the courier when that service is specifically for small and light items?

Re: The new fee ' Regulatory operating fee'

Well said i feel like nowadays when your a small business seller you wonder why you bother with all the fees nowadays being added. You then get these massive sellers with hundreds of negative feedbacks on Ebay, but Ebay are happy with that as they get all the fees from them.I try to make sure i have 100% all the time, but some people are impossible to please. You also get Ebay emailling you constantly wanting to give you loans and then saying the benefits of upgrading your account, boost your listings. So they take even more money off me,when i just about make enough to cover all costs,HMRC,etc.I am really going to see what else is on offer on other sites in the New Year, shame really as i enjoy selling on Ebay.

Re: The new fee ' Regulatory operating fee'

I have just got off the phone from eBay customer service regarding this. No, I too didn't know about it, but it probably appeared in an email with their very small 'small print' somewhere.

The fee includes additional regulatorily work for shipping outside the UK.

So, if your are shipping to the UK ............ you still have top pay it!

The Regulatory Operating Fee only applies to Business sellers.

It doesn't apply to private sellers, because eBay are supporting private sellers with zero fees.

So, not only are Business Sellers supporting fees on sales made by private sellers (free)

but we are NOW paying their Regulatory operating fees for all their sales too.

eBay's promise to stop those who breach eBay policy of businesses selling privately,

has not happened!!!!!

"Will the last business to leave eBay's platform, please remember to log out and turn the lights off".
