I sold two items to one buyer last night , when listed they where marked as small parcel 1kg which would be £3.38 for each parcel . The buyer uploaded both items together as Ebay now says is the correct way to get a postage discount. They paid £5.62 together including vat for combined postage . The question I ask is how come 2 x 1kg separate parcel is not charged as a 2kg parcel which is £3.38 . The point is sellers are no longer able to charge for packing material but Ebay cream off £2.24 . Years ago I remember where Ebay had a thing about Sellers Making Profit On there parcels . The point off it all is had the two items been been packed separately it would have cost £3.38 each which means the buyer saved a grand total off 13p . When Ebay first brought Simply Selivery in they said it would be 30% cheaper postage than a seller doing . The point off this is not only is the buyer being over charged for postage but the seller will get marked for postage costs when the buyer leaves feedback which is not in there
control . Is it not about time Ebay gives the seller control off being able to refund any overpaid postage back to the buyer .
I googled (How come Simply Delivery charges 2 x 1kg parcel is not charged as a 2kg parcel ) The answer was it is down to the seller to make sure the postage details are correctly entered when listing. How difficult can it be when all you click 1kg parcel on the listing pages . But Simply Delivery can not even do a simple sum 1+1=2 .

If (when) SD is mandatory with business accounts, I'll just get on with it, as will everyone else.
Hopefully by then some of its problems, which are many and serious, will have been ironed out. That includes both aspects of combined postage, size/weight and cost. The concept of SD isn't inherently bad, it's just been woefully under-prepared and badly implemented.
SD still hasn't been rolled out to many private accounts, so it's highly unlikely it will be coming to business accounts soon. But when it does, everyone has the option of leaving, and (attempting) selling elsewhere.
I've said that I'm not a fan of SD until I'm blue in the face, as has just about everyone who has posted about it, so it is pretty ingenuous to keep trying to bring the subject back to that. I appreciate my comment about business accounts was a little off-topic, but that's where the conversation was going.

Not to get too picky, but the VAT is only charged on the postage element, not the total order value, as you state in post #35. You may have realised that yourself, as your next post shows it very clearly.

You where the only who was pushing the conversation towards a buisness account . Nearly 2 months is it not about time Ebay get there house in order , combined postage is just a way off making money .

What makes you think Ebay would care about rolling it out for buisness sellers before everything has been sorted . Why would they wait if it was making more money for them .

So why are you even getting involved in a conversation about SD If that is how you feel about it .

Sorry but Royal mail do charge vat on all their postage rates for tracked deliveries. The price you see/ charged includes the vat but it is shown on your receipt. Not the one with the tracking code on.
Ebay are just showing it separately to you on the invoice.
The price your buyer has been charged £6.65 is the 2-10kg rate medium parcel which is cheaper than Royal Mail.
But I agree that shouldn't be how it is calculated for combining two items together if under 1kg each.
A lot better if it was sorted out by the seller.

Having seen what Ebay charge for 2 x 1kg parcels together I am not likely to buy 2 or more items from one seller because I really would not appreciate it if I paid that amount. All you are saving is 9p over 2 x 1kg parcels how can anybody call that combined postage . In the old days if a private seller tried that they would get a negative feedback straight away and I would not blame any buyer to do .

Hi I am having a very similar problem however i did manage to send two item on one tracking No with the help of ebay customer service and did not use there simply delivery 48 hour service as i find this poor to say the least and sent the items using tracked 24 which I have found more reliable. This done by changing the tracking number when you have clicked on the postage so you can combine postage and use a different service that you like. Then is to get a refund for the postage that ebay have charged you this is still on going? . The agent sent me a link to reclaim the postage for the unused label see link below
https://www.ebay.co.uk/claims/simple-delivery/refund/seller
Which starts the refund process and at the moment that's as far as its gone as you have to wait 14 days for any refund I am on day 15 at the moment and no refund.
The second problem that I have encountered is Payment for items that have been delivered but the tracking stating it has not is a big problem if using tracked 48 as a lot of the time its not always recorded Ebay only pay 2 days after the item has been delivered using the tracking No even though the buyer has messaged me to tell me that they received there Item ebay was reluctant to release the funds stating that I would have to wait 30 days for payment even though there help pages states 14days.
Now the postage services are not the most reliable companies around when it comes for getting what you pay for and I have used most of them, to say there hit and miss is a bit of an understatement.
The best way to change the system is to contact ebay with your problem customer services and make them work in sorting out your problem if enough people do it then it will cost ebay money and the system will change.
