Simply delivery

Simple Delivery on eBay is absolutely terrible. It severely limits sellers and doesn’t even include all the couriers I used before. Honestly, it feels like a disaster — I don’t know who came up with this system, but it looks like something pushed by Royal Mail and Evri lobbyists. Instead of helping sellers, it makes things harder and less flexible. Because of this nonsense, I’m gradually moving my sales to other platforms like Vinted and Amazon Marketplace, where I actually have choice and freedom. eBay, this is a huge step backwards!

Below is what my sales look like after introducing Simply Delivery without the Royal Mail 2nd Class shipping option – a total failure.

Wouldn’t want to be stuck behind Music Magpie scanning their QR codes for their orders for the day at the Post Office.

@cobwebcottage

Simple delivery is only applicable to private sellers.

For now here !!!!!!!! - its already been presented to the USA platform - who i believe dont differentiate twixt Private & Business Sellers -

ebay  has not said it will not be introduced to the UK at some point for Business Sellers , however shambolic its design and implementation.

Re: Simply delivery

And we will have to deal with it if and when it happens but that is not the point of the comment which I made to the OP.

Re: Simply delivery

Hopefully it'll have been improved by the time it's introduced for Business Sellers, if it ever is.  It's already been improved using Private Sellers as guinea pigs.

Re: Simply delivery

Yes, but will it be improved to the point that sellers are no longer OWING money to Ebay just for selling something? 🤔

Seems unlikely.

Maybe altered more than improved - i keep looking for genuine posts from Members who relish the imposed changes with glee, but have yet to find anything.

Poor dead horses getting flogged heavily comes to mind.

Re: Simply delivery

Here you go then:  I love Simple Delivery.  My items are covered to a much higher level than they were under the old system and there are far fewer exclusions to the coverage.  If something gets lost or damaged I get to keep the money with no attempting to get compensation out of Evri or Royal Mail.  When an item sells it's a couple of clicks to arrange an RM collection at no further cost and no need for me to print and affix a label, which is more convenient and a very small cost-saving.  e-Bay often under-estimate the weight/size which makes my items cheaper and more likely to sell.  There's no temptation to skimp on packaging to keep them below a limit or being concerned that for all my scales say something weighs 1,980g they may be out and it really weigh over 2kg.  If I DID choose to over-rule e-Bay's estimate and got it wrong I'd have to pay the difference plus £1, which is far less then the penalties levied by Evri or Royal Mail.

Re: Simply delivery

That could have happened on the old system.  Sell a Medium Parcel-sized item for 99p.  e-Bay would have taken £1.06 in Seller Fees meaning I owed them 7p whereas now I'd get the 99p.

Re: Simply delivery

They'll have to make some distinction between a business who sells 1000ish items a year and music magpie/AO/Shark as theres absolutely no way the big boys and girls will use simple delivery as they get special rates from whoever they use as a courier.

Re: Simply delivery

I was thinking more along the lines of a warning with flashing lights and a red background. And a message in bold 'Are you sure you want to go ahead with this listing?'

It could also give Ebay's details for making direct transfers? So a seller can bypass the whole dumb listing process and donate the quick way. 😁

Re: Simply delivery

I'll take that over the ones who want to check 15 cards, forget their pin so then phone somebody up and then go you know what never mind I don't need any cash today anyway.

Now thats down to how big a set of sphericals ebay have - they are happy to coherse those who have little leverage, who leave the platform now, with little regret from ebay , some of the bigger sellers may have more impact - maybe the 'Choice' word could make a come back?

Re: Simply delivery

Congratulations on being chosen as the 'accepted solution' to the problem (of sellers ending up paying more to Ebay in charges than they receive in income and as a result of this "gradually moving my sales to other platforms like Vinted and Amazon Marketplace").

Well done! 😉

@a45heaven

I think you meant coerce but co-hearse would seem entirely appropriate in these circumstances.

Re: Simply delivery

It may come down to choice but off the top of my head I can't think of anything where some business sellers have to do something one way and others the other. There are promos and strike through pricing that you are invited into or 'bonus' research and options you get if you pay for certain shop levels but nothing where one group get it and the others have no option.

Re: Simply delivery

I've said it before but the likelihood of ebay forcing businesses of any size to be required to use Simple Delivery is low IMO.

For the obvious reasons - most businesses have their own contracts with couriers (which private sellers would (or should) not). They would be getting collections and should in theory be doing a volume that is too much for a drop off at an Evri or Royal Mail location. Its literally a logistics issue.

What is likely is as you say, they offer it as an option - or they go the amazon route and at least force tracked postage on all sellers. This then removes the option to use postage stamps for example. For the big boys of course, that won't be an issue because they will already be shipping tracked anyway.

You seem adamant it will happen - fair enough.

Re: Simply delivery

Yes, but most businesses aren't quite Musical Magpie yet. And if business sellers with promoted listing can get used to the idea that their organic sales would somehow magically reduce to 0%, or to have a fee charged for the dubious privilege of updating a listing they can probably getting used to the concept of paying more for less in return?

Just because the idea is bonkers doesn't mean anyone's safe. Perhaps SD will be the default for all and you could pay a small fee to Ebay for the 'benefit' of opting a listing out? For 30 days?

How many things that have actually happened were you adamant at the time would never happen?
