Simple Delivery

Is Simple Delivery mandatory now ? used to be able to select custom postage option but it’s not available now. Just tried listing and Simple Delivery is the only option for postage

Re: Simple Delivery

These changes are far worse than vinted. Vinted charge about 4% and postage options are mostly the sellers choice. And all listings are visible without having to promote. However vinted have far more scammers and it is run by bots, there is no actual CS you can contact. Buyers also want things for nothing - I had a brand new next coat up for £10, I was offered £2!

You also have to be careful how many items you list at any one time so uploading 597 at once isn't recommended. And their listing requires different things from ebay (it's much easier).

Out of the two, ebay far surpassed vinted until they made all these changes. Now I will only use vinted but I am just more careful (videoing my packing, uv security pens etc)

Re: Simple Delivery

TODAYS CHAT WITH EBAY CUSTOMER SERVICE

firstly I removed evri from postage preferences,  listed a plant  and contacted eBay about the delivery. Apparently:

Standard is 48h Tracked

Express is 24h Tracked

there is no need for small parcel box, box size can be anything up to 61x46x46cm which is max medium parcel box, actually a great thing for me as i have to pay for small parcel boxes.

I understand that the Simple Delivery its still being shaped. I suggest anyone not happy with it  or have suggestions should contact customer service and tell them - I did via chat.

I said to them I sell lots of delicate live plants (perishable goods) and can only send express.  Standard delivery is not an option for most of my plants.

Apparently once the simple delivery requirements kiks off on 15th April there will be option to choose express delivery only for the listing.

as well below delivery days are not really correct and this has been reported to developers.

You should take anything CS say with a massive pinch of salt.

Re: Simple Delivery

Hi. Amongst my currently listed items are 3 with bids on. I listed each of these with postage shown as Royal Mail Medium Parcel 2-10kgs at a cost of around £6.40p. I like many also have to purchase packing tape & materials. Once packaged they will all be roughly 3kg or more. Today eBay have over-ridden my postage with Simple Delivery. They are saying the postage cost will be £2.94p and that the package will weigh a maximum of 1kg. I have just finished another phone call with them. They confirmed if it sells with the new Simple Delivery showing 1kg they will send me a pre-paid label. They also confirmed that if it weighs the 3kg I have worked out that I will be penalised with either a 'fine' from my takings and/or the delivery company declining to deliver my package. I have been with eBay for 26 years and never had any problems with P&P. This new system sucks and has not been thought out very well. There are many faults with it and it takes no account whatsoever of the costs associated with packing an item. Ebay are about to lose yet another customer with their clumsy policies and exaggerated costs. there are other, more reliable sales sites out there.

Re: Simple Delivery

This is outrageous - it seems they have started sooner than they said (7th April) to retrospectively change postage costs set by the seller. If you are unable to change it - which I am sure you can't as the auction has begun - you will have to pay for a worthless Ebay Simple Delivery Label and then pay out of your own  pocket for the correct Royal Mail Postage label. It is for the same reason, I have today changed all my CDs listed with free P&P to a £1 or £2 postage charge, as I realised straight away I would otherwise be liable for the cost of an overpriced Simple Delivery Label if they sold at a cost of at least £2.70, if not more, depending what the AI idiot bot decided. They will surely kill off the private seller with this latest move.

Re: Simple Delivery

There is no price for sd below £2.70 so if they add sd to your listings, I believe ebay will override your own postage.  If it was still set as 'free delivery' ebay would charge you and if it is 'buyer pays' the buyer will purchase the postage label from ebay.

The only exclusions from sd seem to be low value items/under £10 or heavy items 20kg+.

Re: Simple Delivery

I'm glad to hear it is going to work for you.

Some postcodes are not allowed to send express, so I shall go from offering tracked 48 and 24 to only offering tracked 48 at an inflated price.
I spoke to customer services today and he didn't even seem to know that if you exclude evri your customers are charged over the odds for their RM postage...

Re: Simple Delivery

I thought things were bad with the prices that were being charged for Simple Delivery especially if you are unable to do Evri drop off, and are in a postcode where you can't offer express... but this is awful.

I noticed when I relisted a couple of items on buy it now that there was no longer a weight box that could be filled in (I usually do fill it in) when I switched to custom from simple delivery, so when those items go to simple delivery the weight will only be guessed from the price I have them now.

Re: Simple Delivery

I was just looking at what happens on simple delivery if you say seller pays and they still fox the price. On my account because I won't do a 16 mile round trip to the nearest evri drop off I have excluded evri and ebay charge my customers a lot more - see chart that wintersdawn1 has posted in reply to you...

Re: Simple Delivery

Hi It is appalling that they have done this - they shouldnt be moving current listings until 7th April. It also  contradicts their own blurb:-

What if the label provided is not appropriate for my item?

If your parcel exceeds the maximum size and weight of the label, and you listed using our recommended size and weight for your item, you won't have to pay any additional costs. Just go ahead and use the Simple Delivery postage label, as we’ve made sure the carrier will accept your package for delivery.

If you provided the size and weight of the item yourself, and these happen to be inaccurate, you’ll be responsible for covering any additional costs.

Re: Simple Delivery

Simple delivery is going to be compulsory from the 15th April. EBay just started getting trust again from sellers and buyers. Regarding fees now they bring this into force ahhhhhhhhh

Re: Simple Delivery

I haven't trusted them for months warned my buyers from Jan what was coming. Endless lies and deceit there's no way i'm leaving any listings up. 15th, 7th now today. Trying to warn my 87 year old friend to take it all off but she thinks it will be ok for letters. That will be phased in i read it's not there now and may never be just like the invoicing, they are trying to hang on to us so desperately it's pathetic. And the woman who knows nothing has been working for them since 2022 and sells nothing so how can she ever imagine what we are going through.

I couldn't work for such a place i would be ashamed.

Re: Simple Delivery

I did reply to you previously - there might be better ways, but this is what I do:

click contact us at bottom of help page, start automated chat then ask to speak to an advisor. It might take some "persuading" but have always ended up with the option for chat with advisor or for someone to phone me. Sometimes a chat with an advisor is useful as the conversation is saved, but I got wrong information when I asked about the future use of simple delivery! And not sure that the people you speak to know everything, because the advisor I spoke to seemed not to know that if you excluded Evri or Royal Mail for Simple Delivery the postage cost were higher

Re: Simple Delivery

Yes it would appear from Monday's message that all private sellers HAVE to list with Simple Delivery. There will no longer be the option to select Advanced Option when listing. I too went through every single one of my listings last week, changing them from Simple Delivery - and trying not to be furious at the colossal waste of my time.

This is an appalling decision by Ebay for the following reasons:

1. Royal Mail Tracked 48 Small Parcel costs £3.39 to buy online. Ebay's Simple Delivery charges £3.74 - a stealth fee of 35p. Despite claiming that discounted rates have been negotiated with Royal Mail. Last night I had sold two items - one was Simple, the other Advanced Option postage. I paid 35p more for the Simple Delivery.

2. The option to collect by Royal Mail is no longer available. I discovered last night that to do this, I have to go to the Royal Mail website, copy and paste in the tracking number and enter my postcode, select my address and enter my name, select a delivery date, enter my email and check two boxes and then finally "buy" a free service. And this is "Simple" and "easier" for me????? NOT!!!! By the way, my nearest Post Office/Sorting Office is 10 miles away.

3. I am also livid (as are many others it would seem) that Evri are being actively promoted by Ebay as a courier. They are a disgrace. Since January of this year, they have lost 2 items that were supposedly on our way to us. Two more items only arrived last week because I "escalated" an enquiry into their whereabouts. And I have just "escalated" two more enquiries over purchases that have been "at my local depot" for 8 days now. (I try to avoid buying anything online that lists Evri as the courier - but many sellers are not entirely honest when listing.) No-one in their right mind would select this courier to collect items that they have sold. A buyer could wait months!

So - I too will be ceasing my ebay activities as soon as I have cleared my existing stock. Ebay have done a great deal for me and have enabled me to sell on a platform that reaches a worldwide customer base for many years. I appreciate that.

But what I cannot stomach is the devious way in which they have gone about the latest changes, and the bullying of private sellers. Such a shame.

Re: Simple Delivery

Hello, just to let you all know that despite selecting Custom delivery options and specifying my own postage preferences in the listing, eBay still applied it's Simple postage options on the sale and kept the postage cost my buyer had paid.

This means I didn't receive the postage cost despite not using eBay's delivery label. Customer service suggested asking the buyer to send it via PayPal as they will receive it back from eBay as I didn't use the label. Sounds to me like utter nonsense. The reason I used custom options is because eBay automatically applies the completely wrong weight and dimensions to every item, for example a single star wars figure they had as a cabin luggage size up to 20kg. Now I have posted the item myself so I can't cancel the order. What on earth is going on with eBay these past few months??

Re: Simple Delivery

Thanks Jigoswrus, I am a private seller clearing out accumulated car parts, nearly all R-R and Bentley, acquired as spares over some 50 years. Just renewed some 60 items, not all spares, and this SimDel replaced my Parcelforce delivery on a wheel, 14Kg 50cm diam at £17.95 with small parcel up to 2Kg at about £4.79! Other items which were large letter became an increase of 33>66%, whereas my car spares, many too large for standard and heavy were underpriced up to £14. Only item not transferred to SimDel was my piano!
Next time I relist do I have to state size and weight in order for them to get it right? Should I just increase asking price to cover their ineptitude, someone stated if delivery fees are underpaid e-b will simply take the deficit from your received funds.
Stressed out pensioner just trying to clear up before my kids have to.

Re: Simple Delivery

Not only that as you have said - but the Simple system, while it covers shipping costs, does NOT seem to have considered packaging costs. I can spend a couple of pounds on bubble wrap, and cardboard box for shipping per some items.

So in effect we will now have to add those expenses to the cost of the item being sold.
