OK since the eBay decision to add buyer protection fee to private sellers items I am thinking of other places to sell. I have a fair amount of clothing to sell (much of it is BNWT or lightly used) that accumulated over the years. Is Vinted where everyone is buying their clothing from nowadays rather than eBay because that is what I am reading on various boards. As there is no difference between eBay or Vinted now I don't feel I should just stick to eBay anymore. eBay did not have to blindly follow Vinted but they did. They could have had a lower fixed fee, it could have been a sliding fee, or even no fees for items under £20. But they have chosen a painful approach. So is Vinted a better place to sell clothing?

I did write something along these lines earlier but I can't find the post. Can anyone find it? Why would it disappear?

It's still there. Click on your own username to find your posts.

Not much help, but my three grandchildren (14 to 22) only buy on Vinted and that is before the new eBay change. I don`t know why, but they never look at eBay, although they used to. Perhaps it`s just a trend and they will look at eBay again in the future.

eBay don't charge private sellers fees.

There is the buyer fee which is going to make life difficult for private sellers on eBay so am thinking of other options. Just wondering if selling clothing on Vinted is a better option.

OK, this is what I have heard people say. I will have to make the effort and try it out.

I did not write it clearly enough. There is a fee for buying from private sellers on eBay after Feb 4th. I think I have to make the effort to list on V and see what happens. I am reading that many (younger) people don't even look on eBay to buy clothing.

I tried it out. It was a decent platform, quite straightforward and I think I'm right in saying second hand only. Virtually the same fees as eBay will be. Although I think I read that the fixed fee increases in increments. Not sure about that.
I figured it was popular with Gen Z so I picked a young person thing, put it on for 2.95 thinking that seemed quite high compared to other things on there and it sold within 24 hours, so very pleased. 2.95 was about what I hoped to get from eBay after I payed for postage, but I was shocked at the delivery charge they were prepared to pay and also the standard of listings is terrible. Terrible descriptions, worse photography, so I think most sellers that have sold on eBay will stand out and get good views. I guess it is perhaps about what age group buys your stuff.

I sell unwanted clothes and have tried EBay & Vinted. With the new fee structure the prices will be very similar to buyers. Downside to V is every listing is open to offers, so expect some lowball offers, also if you accept the offer, the buyer doesn’t have to buy it..item remains sellable to others, but you can’t remove the offer once made. Most people choose Inpost or Evri as it cheaper for them as they pay it. Seller receives full amount either as soon as buyer marks order as okay, or after 2 days if they don’t. Quicker to list (no item specific tish) .Maybe try a few before 4 Feb to see how it goes

I have a wardrobe full of 1970s sports jackets and similar. Priority at present is other decluttering, but when I get round to it, which platform would be best for that? I assume not the same market as these kool kids! Do amateur theatre groups buy this kind of thing?

From my understanding neither do Vinted - they charge a buyer protection fee which eBay have copied to offset the original private sellers fees.

Kool kidz love retro vintage fashion......

The up side with Vinted as a buyer most sellers very often give out offers to buyers.
Also sellers can except any number of individual buyers offers at the same time. It's then down to who then pays first.
Also if a buyer makes an offer and then the seller returns with counter offer, then the buyer makes another offer and the seller doesn't except that, you as a buyer can at least go back to the previous seller offer and then buy it you wish. That never happens on eBay, so potential sales just go dead.

I don’t get why you are thinking of V because of the buyer protection fee when they also have it?

Just heard an interesting snippet about Vinted. In their T&C’s they state that if you are a private seller your listings are prioritised over Pro account sellers in visibility and ranking.
Wonder if ‘pay to play’ is coming next?

Another Vinted up-side as a buyer is I often purchase items using Click & Collect, because I don't want packages left outside in the rain, or for anyone to walk off with. About 99% of sellers on Vinted have Click & Collect turn on .
The down-side with eBay Click & Collect it's not something sellers have tuned on much. And the new setup coming in on February 3nd seems to be showing that most sellers have now turned of Click & Collect because they don't want their money held any longer than is nessersery. I see this a consequence of this upcoming new change.

It shouldn't make any difference.
With Click & Collect, the item is sent to the store. When it arrives and tracking updates to show delivered then it's no different to sending an item direct to the buyer.

I'm almost certain in one of the many busy threads over the last few days Marco or one of the other eBay staffers said Click & Collect is not considered delivered until the buyer picks it up. I could be mis-remembering, I've read a LOT of posts the last week!

That wouldn't make much sense to me as the new programme requires a tracking number showing delivery to update to show as delivered, I don't believe for one minute that the programme is geared towards adding an additional hurdle i.e collection code showing as collected.
Plus, the seller has done their bit in sending the item to the delivery address (the C&C store showing on the order details). At this point they're protected against an eBay item not received claim, so on that basis I think that something has got a bit lost in translation somewhere.
