Shoes Packaging recommendations

Hello All

I don't sell a lot on eBay and recently started selling a few of my husband's many trainers (with his permission!). I don't usually sell shoes at all, and want to work out the most cost effective way to buy suitable shoe box packaging. It's only small volume so don't need packs of 10 or 20, only 5 I think. Any ideas please let me know. Thanks!

I used to go to Clarks shoe shop when I was selling , as it fitted my items perfectly,  and asked if they had some boxes unused / unwanted.  I always came away with 2 or 3 .

If you are selling used shoes,  then the box obviously does not have to match with the same brand of shoe.  Just cross out the brand names.

Supermarkets also have small boxes they are happy to give away for free,  if you ask.

If your just selling off a few pairs and you don't have boxes for them, why not just wrap them in paper (lots) and put them in a bag?

As long as they are protected, they should be fine.  I really so need for the extra expense of boxes etc.

It's not like if they are dropped, it's going to break them....

Ask in your local shoe shops,  alternatively IKEA sell a cardboard box called "vettentråg" for 50p each

Why would you pay for a box to send something in?

If you really want a box, just go to the local supermarket.  They always have spare boxes, particularly the likes of the co-op.

I just take any suitable box from supermarket and other shops recycling trolleys

if there’s none suitable I take the strongest bits of card or part boxes and wrap  around the item or create my own box from them

You’ll need to buy a roll of brown tape anyway

tbh for trainers, they’re not fragile, all you need to do is roll cardboard around them after putting some kind of paper around them first and perhaps some bubble wrap

Presentation,  this is ebay not vinted,  a tesco bag and a load of brown tape won't do.

This is a private seller, presentation is not important!

It is simply a matter of selling your old stuff, nothing more.

No reputation to uphold.

Aside from which, who said anything about a Tesco bag and a load of brown tape?

And since when does anyone care what something is wrapped in, as long as it's secure and in the condition it was sent?

I go to the recycle bins at various places and pick up newspapers to line the bottom of my garden waste wheelie bin.  Just don't fall in!!  At those dumsters (paper / cardboard) there almost always shoe boxes for recycling.  I pick them up whenever I see a good one.  Most often they are adult size but also sometimes kids sizes.

The German supermarkets have cages of boxes in the store - just help yourself - they don't mind.  But when I am at the larger supermarkets like Asda / Morrisons I always ask a clerk - never been refused.

Sending footwear in a box is a must - just scrub out the size / style on the side of the box and send wrapped with brown paper or re-use mail bags.  If I've received one I cover my name / address etc., and turn it inside out - hey presto a new bag.  Footwear protected in a box and usually a happy buyer cos they see you have taken care of their purchase.

If I buy shoes from a private seller, I really appreciate it if they arrive boxed - especially if they still have their original box. It is nice to receive shoes + original box in good condition, & not all squashed from having been posted in a plastic bag.

I am more likely to buy from a seller again, if they have packed carefully, so I do think packaging is important, whatever the item & whoever the seller.

I mentioned brown tape only to secure the boxes or self made boxes though lol

I just use whatever shoe box I have to hand. It may or may not be the original box as we have a terrible habit of keeping most boxes when we buy new things due to the fact we give surplus allotment veg away. That said, I sent some sports drinks back to a supplier last week (possible faulty batch) and emailed them to say I hadn’t sent them some cherry beer, it just so happened I had a box with bottle slots 🤣 I also reuse that brown paper that frequently fills amazon boxes

Maybe you did, but he/she is telling me that I'm doing it wrong, because I'm using Tesco bags and brown tape.
Why does nobody ever actually read posts?

I've picked up a few when it's rubbish collection day as peeps will leave the boxes out for collection. Also was given some by one of the local shoe shops.

This was when I was selling. I no longer sell due to SD.
