Sent ink cartridges in retail packaging, brand new and sealed. Damaged in transit

I sent this item with Evri. Evri is one of the postage options suggested by eBay, by the way. Like, one of the very top ones as well.
I had the buyer open the return request, issued him a prepaid label and I am awaiting his return back to me to refund his money. All this immediately.
I thought I could then claim my money back from Evri, but I found out ink is among their exclusions so looks like I am gonna be out of pocket here.
Buyer showed me various pics of the damages. The outer packaging was damaged too. I don’t know what Evri did to the cartridges. Disgusting. Sent them before without issues and now this. They were brand new and sealed in their retail packaging. I don’t think they were fragile items as the cardboard retail packaging is not flimsy. To cause that kind of damage they must have like run them over or something!

Why does eBay suggest Evri as an option for this specific item then if  Evri says it is prohibited and excluded from compensation? I am pretty sure there is nothing I can do to argue anything with either Evri or eBay but I am really angry now.
I know Evri are universally hated, but this is the first time ever in years of selling in general and in years of having stuff delivered to me or to others with Evri that I have damage in transit. I couldn’t imagine this would happen to this particular item.
Is there anything at all I can do to recover my money? Or, as I think, am I out of luck? Thanks.

Sorry this has happened, but it's down to the seller to use a shipping method that offers cover against loss or damage. Evri do seem to exclude loads of items, I've no idea if Royal Mail would have covered these items, but they have a restricted list you can check online.

Packages can have 68 - 80kg of weight on them during their journey, and will also be chucked around like a football.

Other than RM labels via eBay, always buy direct from the carrier, not Packlink.  On the carrier's website, you can see the list of excluded items and, if there's a problem with the delivery, it's easier (but not easy) to deal direct with the carrier rather than a middle man.
