Hello,
I am wanting to sell a rare vinyl worth probably in the hundreds. I would like to try avoid the hassle of simple delivery, so am I right in thinking if I use custom postage as opposed to simple delivery I can choose the courier (Royal Mail by 1pm) and offer free postage to the buyer? Can the buyer change this to any other courier (I have disabled evri in my website settings but I’m using the app to list and can’t see how to make sure it is disabled there)? And would I be able to input the tracking number anywhere so I’m paid out when the item is tracked as delivered? Obviously assuming the buyer is happy, (I’m 100% honest and describe very carefully so don’t see that this will be an issue, never ever had a problem before). Sorry for all the questions, I imagine I will have more once the vinyl has hopefully sold. Thanks very much ❤️ x

I thank you for your comments and views.
I never relist an item, and have a unsold rate of maybe 2 a month. I used to offer 'second chance' items where i have duplicates, but once ebay made it a 'pay on acceptance' process for the buyers including a postage, i stopped with that process.
The items i list on ebay are not the rarer items (Say £500 plus), those would go onto my fall back Set Sale location - D... cogs, and also gain exposure on various groups on FB, including my own page.
Attracting potential buyers to these locations is done through communicating, never through paid for in house promotions or 'sponsoring', which the platform has the ability to hide then un-hide once a ransom is paid.
The OP was suggested to make the start price high for protection, or maybe a reserve, im not sure how that's impacted by BPF, but it wont be a positive. Will seller fees be higher for a Private seller with a high Start price?
What faith should be attributed to ebays exposure for the item - without having to pay more for the privilege?
It seems with Simple Delivery - the option of a shipper is down to the Buyer now, so any affection to the Local Post Office for the Seller is erased.
I agree that record buyers are very trustworthy, i cant accept ebays figure which they display for 'returning Buyers' but mine is in the 90% region. One trait for that has been until the 'pay in 4 days or else' ebay rule, to offer my buyers the option to combine shipping and save postage , as the discs lend themselves to multiple item shipping.
ebay is functional as an auction site only these days as far as im concerned, but the changes they make are making that choice much more difficult.

Private sellers have NO sellers fees, even for items which go for thousands!
The OP also doesn't appear to be an experienced seller of vinyl records, like you. So, in my experience, discogs wouldn't really be suitable for him (and they WILL charge a hefty fee), as he doesn't know the value of the record. Nor is he likely to be connected to the most appropriate FB groups.
As mentioned earlier, SD doesn't apply to sales over £750, so if his item is that value, postage methods are entirely at his own discretion.
Of course, his item may not sell on eBay in an auction listing only lasting a few days. But where could he guarantee a sale that quickly these days? I would recommend he try once on eBay, and if that doesn't work, investigate other avenues. (This all assumes the item is valued at over £750.00)

@vinylscot wrote:Decent rant, misses one point. Simple Delivery does not apply to items priced at £750 or above, so your "friend" could sell on eBay and still have full control of their postage methods.
My friend received the 'Same' e-mail-message from Ebay - as did 'All' UK Private Sellers, which Failed to mention that point in which you mention.
This is their message in all it's entirety :-

Simple eBay inconsistency. Below is a screenshot of part of the SD help page.

Full protection: Enjoy peace of mind with eBay's full coverage for items lost or damaged in transit, where we handle claims with buyers so you don’t have to.
Does that mean ebay are simply the judge and jury in cases of either lost or damaged items?
How is it proven that damage has occurred in transit ?
Or are they going to pay from ebay coffers compensation to a Buyer who has an issue (the Buyer has already paid for BPF at the check out).
And the Seller keeps all the amount due to them with the items sale?

“Ebay have enabled you to sell your vinyl record for hundreds of pounds.”

“LOL reality would suggest this is so far from the truth”
I was attempting to help the original poster of this thread who said:

So we could have a situation where a record being sold for auction on eBay using Simple Delivery suddenly falls into "custom" delivery situation once it reaches £750. How is the custom delivery amount then determined - during or post auction?
I mean, calling this whole thing Simple Delivery is a joke, as we all know...
