Selling item collection only

Hi all, trying to list an item for collection only.
Ubderstand eBay have removed cash on collection as an option, so tried to list it as a buy it now with immediate payment, but eBay error message says that’s a no no.

If I cant accept immediate payment, I thought buyer had to pay before we exchanged details?

if they pay via eBay and come to collect but changed their mind, do I have to cancel order or will eBay do it..  a bit concerned about being out of pocket….Orshould I try Marketplace?

Selling item collection only

Collection only items have to be listed without the immediate payment box ticked.

Once it has sold and Ebay have the payment, you can arrange for the collection and provide your details to the buyer.

Just make sure that the buyer has a good inspection of it and if applicable, show it working.

The buyer is also give a collection code which you will need to prove collection. You can scan the QR code on a phone or enter the numerical code on a laptop.

If the buyer decides they do not want to go ahead with the sale after seeing it, you can cancel the order there and then.

If you haven't sold before, Ebay will hold your money for 30 days to make sure there is nothing wrong with the sale.

Up to you to decide which is the best way to sell it. Ebay or local marketplace.

As a new seller you probably cannot use immediate payment.  But buyer will have to pay before they collect.  They give you a collection code when they come and that will release the money.   If they change their mind you issue a cancellation and that refunds their money.

Selling item collection only

Hello comedydad69 - I am a new seller and just sold my first item on eBay that is collection only. Just so I understand. The buyer needs to give me an official eBay collection code or show me a QR code. How do I know the collection code or QR code is real when I meet the buyer? Also, how many digits is a collection code?

'How do I know the collection code or QR code is real when I meet the buyer? Also, how many digits is a collection code?'

The collection code is  6 digits.

There is somewhere on your selling page for you to input the code which, if genuine, will go into the system and prove collection, so input the code whilst the buyer is still there.

If it doesn't work, don't give them the item....

(personally I wouldn't use the QR code; I'd use the number.... no chance of inadvertantly downloading any nasties that way.)

Hello,

Thanks for the advice. For the QR code, how do AI capture it correctly. Do I need to be capturing it from my phone camera or using the eBay app at the same time to verify everything is okay?

I'm no good to you here @lucy_farmer   I too only use a laptop and that's partly the reason I do not sell anymore ,  as I don't possess an i phone, ol' brick Nokia does everything I need. 🤗

Lucy,

When you have a laptop, what is the process for capturing a QR code then. Do you have to be logged into your eBay account and on a certain page?

Do you happen to have the eBay UK contact number to speak to someone?

Cheers,
Jonathan

The QR code method only works via the eBay (mobile) app.

For many reasons I strongly advise sellers input the 6 digit code to confirm collection and not scan the QR code even if they are using the app (the buyer will always have both).

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.
