Buyers- why do you watch?
I've been a buyer on ebay for years, but I'm a new seller. All my listings atm except the 3 I uploaded this morning have at least 1 watcher each. I wanna know how sellers feel about watch. Does anyone else get really fed up of people watching their decently priced items but not buying, bidding, or making offers? I do especially when with my fiancé's help, all my items are now at a better price! I always thought the whole point of watch was to keep a eye on something you want to buy, or at least that's why we use it!
I genuinely think it's time that ebay get rid of watch and add a new feature, one that makes it crystal clear to sellers that people do want to buy, bid, or make offers on your items. I find it really unfair that watch doesnt make it clear that people want to actually buy your things. It's embarrassing and frustrating when you notice you have watchers, drop your prices or send offers to tempt them, but nothing happens. I would probably call the new feature something like Want to Buy. And for auctions, i would have ebay ask anyone that clicks Want to Buy, "Are you willing to bid on this item?" and if the potential bidder taps no, they should not be allowed to put the item on Want to Buy. This will remove the frustration sellers feel when they are basically being strung along by watchers who have no intention of ever buying or bidding. Watch is super frustrating for sellers. I don't think any of my sold items have been bought by any watchers i have had. When I only did buy it now, I had the ability to send offers to watchers. So I sent anywhere between £5-£15 discounts on items! None of my watchers accepted my offers
Currently 3 of my auctions have a start bid of 99p. Each one has at least 1 watcher, but none have bid. It's 99p!
Im probably ranting now but seriously, who agrees that watch needs to go and what is the point of watch? All it does is build a seller's hopes up, and that's just plain wrong

@*devils.advocate* is right you know, just customise that table in active listings and uncheck the watchers checkbox.
Who cares if they watch? I’m only interested if they buy.
Don’t give yourself a hard time over it, they don’t do it to annoy you.

There is no point as selling on ebay is too slow for me. ideal 4 a seller that is selling regular than yes it is worth it then.

I think he is being serious.
It seems that 90% of all watchers on eBay are other eBay sellers watching to see if you get the price you want for your item so they can put their same or similar item on eBay for the same or similar price as yours !!
so why would they want to accept any offers you send them ?... when they already have the same item that they want to sell ??

My interpretation is different.
To me it seems that 90% of watchers are now re-sellers wondering how low your price will go.
They get your offer then decide if it's worth their while to accept, re-list, get a buyer and get out of their chair to send it to them.
If not they just ignore the offer and add todays batch of new listings to their watch list and wait for 'better' offers from one or two of them. It's just a numbers game to them, if 1 or 2% will go low enough to give them the profit they need / want, they're happy. Everyone else can scratch their heads and wonder what they did wrong.
The answer is they did nothing wrong, just didn't feel like joining in the race to the bottom on ebay, so the buyer can make more, often on another site.

I sometimes "watch" so seller sends offer and then buy it if offer is good.
Sometimes i look for similar items and compare price.
Im calm when people "watch" item as it will give real buyer faster time to buy so it doesn't get sold buy those "watchers"

I like your approach... Think I will do the same thing from now on ! 😁 😎 😎

I really don't think that "...it will give real buyer a faster time to buy...".
We now have a situation where savvy sellers, willing to play the game, will inflate their prices just to be able to reduce it again and make the price seem more reasonable.
Savvy buyers will watch and wait for the "more reasonable" offer.
But inexperienced sellers who don't know the rules of this game, or those unwilling to play and list at a reasonable price to start with are left waiting for a sale because there is now the expectation that a reduced price offer will be sent, so buyers delay buying whether the price is reasonable or not.
Previously the seller would add "Best Offer" to their ad. if they were interested in haggling. There would be less haggling and less wasted time if everyone listed at a BIN price that they will accept straight away. Add Make An Offer if they want to haggle. Or use the "Auction" format if they are willing to gamble with the uncertainty of an un-fixed price where the result can either be higher or lower than the price they might hope for.
Everything I've listed this year, with one exception, has had watchers but I've only sold 4 items. If the watchers had any intention of of comparing prices and giving "real" buyers a race to buy reasonably priced items, I'd have sold many more as my prices were always reasonable.
I only have to look at the Sold pages of the vintage glass I sell (and sometimes buy) to see that these days most of what does sell are items that are under-valued 'bargains'. It's why ebay has a reputation for being involved in the 'Race to the bottom' with business sellers offering top quality, high-end items leaving the platform and private sellers doing the same because both are fed-up with having to accept low prices to sell anything.

I put items on my watch list because I am interested in them at that moment. It doesn't mean I will definitely bid on them. Often the price has gone up to beyond what I want to pay by the time the auction ends so I don't bother to bid and usually delete that item from my watch list. Sometimes I find a different item instead so again usually delete the first one. A lot of the time my watch list doesn't result in a purchase because of these and other reasons. For example if you list an item at 99p that I would be prepared to pay £5 for then I will watch it. If its still 99p at the end then I put my bid in with a few seconds to spare and probably get it for £1.20 or something close. If by the time it ends the price is £10. That is double my maximum so there is no point in me bidding on it.

Doesn't work for you, but quite often works for me. If people want a warm feeling from imagining they've screwed me out of a little cash I'm not going to stand in their way.
