I recently listed an item which had a couple of defects. These defects were highlighted in the listing description. The item sold but the buyer now has requested a return and full refund because of the defects that were listed. Do you think this is fair for Ebay to suggest I accept the return even though I mentioned the defects in the listing!??

Just accept the return, they may damage it more just to push a return for damaged beyond reason.
Do not refund until you get it back, inspect it if damaged more than original sale come back for further advice.

Thanks for the advice! I will thoroughly check it over, don't worry!
I just don't understand the buyer! The issues were clearly mentioned in the description, but they proceed to buy! Confused.com!!

Some people don't read descriptions properly (or at all!)
And other people may buy something that is broken or 'defective' hoping they can fix it. When it becomes apparent they can't fix it as easily as they hoped, it might be sent back.....

Its like lucy farmer said allot do not even read the description
The app does not make it easy to find and pc it is hidden below a load of sponsored similar stuff so never read that far.
It always best just to accept the return and add them to the blocked list.

you should be able to get ebay to pay for the refund when you show them that you listed it correctly \ accurately.
how, you will have to
1 send the buyer a return postage label
2 when the item arrives back, discuss the situation with ebay before refunding the purchase amount.

HI Lucy_farmer
Can't beleive people don't read descriptions, especially for electrical and cameras. I always need to know specific things before hitting the buy button!! Just madness and a total waste of time. And Ebay always side on the buyers!!

Never have any problems finding the description, desk top or mobile app.
Just always best to read it to make sure your not missing anything. Like on my listing. Hey ho!

Probs a long process but worth a try! Is this something you have been through and done? Cheers

No they don't "side on the buyers" at all. And I say this as a Business Seller who buys little on ebay beyond packing supplies for selling. ebay is legally obliged to follow Distance Selling Regs to allow a buyer to return for any reason within a given period.
If a buyer mis-uses returns to (for example) send back an item that is not-as-described but is in fact described correctly such as the buyer mentioning defects stated in the listing then ebay will take action such as reimbursing the seller for postage costs, removing defects against your account or taking action against the buyer if they are a serial offender. I have first hand experience of such things.
But what you have to do is TELL EBAY about this. By calling them or live chatting. If you think you can state your case for not accepting a return in the return case or just writing "No returns" in your listingg and think ebay will find in your favour, you clearly having been paying attention to how eBay operates.
That said, a buyer can return an item back for any reason. Or no reason. That's just how it works. For everyone and every website.

I'd advise not bothering with eBay's customer service agents at all. At best they'll tell you what they think you want to hear to get you off the phone regardless whether what they're telling you is actually correct or not. At worst they'll completely misunderstand, think you're the buyer complaining about the seller and hit the "Refund" button.
The thing to understand about return cases is they are automated - they follow an established process. Once the buyer has opened an INAD case you must send a pre-paid return label; if you don't you stand to lose the money and the item by default. You have to deal with any issues - including the case having been opened abusively - when you receive whatever the buyer sends back.

Thanks
I will act on my grievance once the item, hopefully in the same condition, is returned.
Fingers crossed for some favourable results.

"These defects were highlighted in the listing description."
But not as item description,I.E, new used or "for parts, not working" hence the buyer can claim not as described to get a full refund.
Items were described as "used".

Yes and no. They aren't supposed to open a return under that category but ebay will not, indeed cannot, prevent the return. Because, again, anyone can return anything for any reason.
What ebay can do is reimburse the seller for the cost of return postage, remove any defects and investigate/sanction the buyer. But all this occurs after the item has been returned. eBay have repeatedly told me this when I have called them about suspect returns.
Ebay will not, in fact do not have the capability to, close returns.
