Refunding buyer

A buyer bought a vinyl record from me and requested a refund with the reason being " I just don't like it ". They have requested a refund for the item £1 + postage £1.90. Do I have to refund the postage, and do I have to pay the return postage? They have requested £2.90 but if I pay this now they do not have to return the item.

Refunding buyer

Direct your buyer to the Returns policy ' see details' link on your listing.  This will explain they have to pay for the fully tracked return postage if they are sending back the item for a change of mind reason.

Once this case is opened you will have to refund everything the buyer originally paid you.

I don't think the reason 'i just don't like it' is a valid excuse for wanting to return a record..

It's only a couple of quid but I would refuse on principle and see where Ebay takes it...

What is wrong with people? They would spend more than that on a sandwich and far more on a drink! Why can they not take responsibility for their own actions? If I mis-buy something ( nothing unusual for me ) I suck it up and either re-sell it, palm it off on friend/family etc, I don't put it on the seller for my mistake. This is a very North American attitude, that has crept into the UK, that it is always someone else's fault.

Given you are a private seller - you don't have to accept the return request at all for that return reason.

The OP does because they chose to accept (remorse) returns:

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Yes, I do accept returns but this is only the second time I have had someone return something for a reason like this, usually they make up another reason such as there were fingerprints on it so they can get a free return. The last time someone returned something for the " I just don't like it " reason ebay charged me for the return label.

you might want to block them from buying again - https://www.ebay.co.uk/bmgt/BuyerBlock

Hi stef758, thanks for your post.

Just to add to the advice given above, it looks like you accept returns indeed, please note that as a private seller, you can change this to not accept returns at all in the future if you wish. However, for this case, the buyer will be able to return the item, but they will need to pay for the return as per your returns policy. Simply make sure to not refund the item until you get it back, and if you need further assistance you can ask us to step in here, or you can let me know and I will be happy to take a further look for you no problem.

Thank you,

Marco

I am currently away, and will return on the 5th of August. Please expect a delay in my reply

An update to this case, the buyer returned the record to me and I refunded his £2.90, the return label cost him £2.50. I do not think many people would have bothered to return it!
