I received a counter offer on my item that I accepted however it is showing under manage offers as pending and it says you made this buyer the winner but it is awaiting payment. It expires in some 19 hours if they don't pay. I have contacted the user but not heard anything.
I thought this was all automated? That if you accepted an offer the item sells and payment is automatically taken from the buyer?
I get the feeling the buyer is not going to pay and is just a time waster. This is so frustrating and annoying.

Perhaps the buyer doesn't have his bank details or other payment method, registered with eBay.
They may well turn out to be a non payer however, but sometimes buyers thinking counter offers when accepted, means they have paid, I find sening an invoice with a polite message to pay sometimes works.

Also ensure you have ticked the relvant boxes for an immediate payment to be made when an offer is made / accepted.
Go to your Site Preferences here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/bmgt/buyerrequirements
Ensure the second option little box is ticked.

Those settings are already ticked and saved.

Already messaged them. Waited a whole day before sending them a message. I think they are a non payer. Or they found the same item selling cheaper. Weird though that eBay didn't take payment from them when I have the settings set to immediate payment.

Then, I wonder if it's a case that the buyer doesn't have any payment details, no card or bank account on file.
Are they a new buyer ? Does their feedback show recent previous purchases ?
No harm sending an invoice with a polite message for them to pay, then you can send them the item. Doing this though may reset the timeline back to another 4 days for them to pay you. I only suggest sending an invoice as it has worked for me, to then receive a prompt payment.

There is no invoice to send. The potential buyer has 179 feedback rating.

I think the 'Require all buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer' only works when the buyer makes the offer not when the seller sends an offer.

I sent them an offer, they sent me a counter offer. I accepted. Since then it has been in pending saying awaiting payment but the item is still for sale.
eBay glitch?

Are you on the Seller Hub? See link below.
Then, click on the item and top left you'll see Send Invoice, or click on See Order Details then on the right from More Actions drop down menu is Send invoice, it's in one or both places.
Seller Hub here and you may need a PC / laptop and not the app to do this.

I am a private seller. I accepting the user's counter offer and it says you made them the winner contact them next which I tried to do but it just gives me the option to contact them not about an item or enter an item number which I tried but it just took me to their items for sale.

Not seeing the option. Can't find anywhere to send an invoice. the counter offer i accepted is in pending awaiting payment. It expires in 14 hours. I think the user is just letting the clock run out.

It's a change, not a glitch, and blinking annoying.
I made two offers for two pairs of cufflinks. Both brought up the immediate payment. One was accepted and the payment went through, the second one was countered and I accepted the counter offer.
I buy every day and, since immediate payments began, I'm pretty sure that the payment for accepted counter offers aren't automatic. But I never ever pay for items immediately, I always go back and check the buyers listings and in this case there was a lapse in time before having the counter offer accepted. So, as usual, I didn't pay, intending to go back later and check out the sellers other listings, after contacting seller and checking she combined postage.
Eventually checked listings, and sent an offer on another item, which was eventually declined, so went to pay for the second item. All, I thought, within 24 hours, certainly within 30 hours, I was away from home and just ebsying in the late evenings. No item in awaiting payment. Seller had to relist and go through palaver again. Good job I really wanted the cufflinks!
So now the item becomes a pending order, not a sold item, with no more than 24 hours to pay. Yet another change intended to improve things that does the opposite. Wouldn't it be nice to check how eBay works with prolific buyers like me - the changes that affect combing postage, payment timescales and removed my ability to choose my payment option have already reduced my buying - instead of some highly paid 'executive' who probably buys 2 items a year? That would be sensible and eBay doesn't do sensible.

If the buyer still hasn't paid for the item after four working days have passed add the buyer's User ID to your Blocked Bidders List and report him/her for non-payment. By doing that not only will the buyer be unable to purchase anything else from you in the future and waste any more of your time, he/she will also receive an Unpaid Item Strike in relation to the transaction and your Final Value Fees will be refunded by eBay, meaning that you'll be free to relist the item for sale again should you wish to do so.

It is a pending order. Until they pay anyone else can buy my item.

same thing happened to me today, buyer made counter offers on 5 items, i accepted them, then looked in seller hubs 'awaiting payment' nothing in there?...and the 5 items were still listed in my shop, had no notifications from ebay stating 'congratulations your item sold, wait for payment etc' so contacted ebay and after speaking with 4 different advisors was told its a new system layout they are trying?????
contacted the buyer and they replied all items are in there basket, looked the same to them, and would be paying when they get home from work later tonight...they are a regular customer....
hope this helps

In this scenario the buyer doesn't get 4 days to pay!
01-08-2024 2:35 AM
Well the timer ran out so the damn item is still for sale. I was so excited thinking it had sold and hope dashed.

At least if the item remained available for anyone else to buy throughout then you weren't really inconvenienced in any way. Better than having to wait 4 days to cancel for non payment and not being able to sell it to anyone else in the meantime.
I wonder though whether the buyer will automatically get a non payment strike as a result of not paying?
Ebay need to make it clear to buyers that the item is still available for others to buy even when their counter offer is accepted and that payment isn't automatic in this instance. Presumably, the same would have applied if they had accepted your original offer, in that the item would have remained available to others until they actually paid.

I think what happened here was the buyer had bought the same item cheaper elsewhere between them sending the counter offer and me accepting it then they just let the time run out instead of paying. Would have been nice of them if they had actually bothered to message me in the meantime saying something like sorry, bought elsewhere.
