I tried to send a PM to someone but got a pop-up message from ebay saying "You have reached the limit for the number of private messages you can send for now. Please try again later."
It begs 3 questions - What is the limit? Over what period? How many minutes/hours/days is later?
Can anyone enlighten me please!

I don't think there is a ' limit' number to be aware of!
I have been able to PM a member friend maybe a good dozen messages without being told ' Too many, limit reached'. I have also sent one message , and tried to reply to the incoming reply only to be told ' You have reached your limit' this after One message ! 🤔
What I do suggest, just try again within 5 minutes, if that doesn't work then 10 minutes, it usually doesn't take long.
Completely daft in my humble opinion as I answer many questions too, from peeps on PM and not answering back , may sound rude. 😐

Thanks, tressygirl. When I tried again, I got the message "Authentication failed. Authentication ticket mismatched. Failed authentication". I've no idea what that means!
I sent the message through the member's ebay account instead of via their forum profile, and I think that's gone through.

I've had that limit, too, from time to time. It seemed to lift within a few days. Yes, the workaround is just to message through their eBay account.

"Authentication Failed. Authentication ticket mismatched. Failed Authentication."
I've had these sometimes when writing long replies on the boards (with two fingers). I'm not sure why there are several variations but I'd guess they all basically mean "You've taken too long and we can't match your reply to the thread any more".
Don't know if it works for PMs but to get round it when replying to a comment on the boards I just hit the back button when "Authentication Failed" appears and go back to the thread. Go to the comment I was replying to and click "Reply" as normal, it comes back with the "You have auto-saved content. Load or Discard?" caption. Click 'Load' and the clock starts again. Finish my reply and click 'Reply' as normal and everything is added to the thread as one reply.
Perhaps go back to your Messages page, click reply again and see if it saved your content as a draft ??
With your PM perhaps the censor bots took exception to something you wrote and "You exceeded your limit" looks better than ebay saying "You can't say that." ?? I didn't know there were any limits.
